Hogwarts - Harry Potter
If you haven't heard of this worldwide phenominon, you must be living in space. In my opinion, the series are the best children's books ever. Hat's off to J.K Rowling.
Hogwarts, school for witches and wizards, and home to Harry, Ron and Hermione, is high in the Scottish highlands.
In the books, it is said to be near Dufftown. However, in the films, the castle used as the set was Alnwick Castle, in Northumberland. These places are in completely different places, one Scotland, one England.
Many other location were also used in the films. Glenfinnan Viaduct is where they filmed the scene in the Chamber of Secret where Harry and Ron are in the flying car. The West Highland Railway was used for the rest of the journey.
Also, many characters in the books and films were Scottish. The most obivous, Professor McGonagall, the great transfiguration teacher. Quidditch captain, Oliver Wood, another example. There is even evidence to show that Rowena Ravenclae was Scottish too.
In The Chamber of Secrets, when Harry and Ron are flying to Hogwarts, many muggles saw them. One of which being Angus Fleet, who saw them, and told the police. Angus was living in Peebles, a nice wee town just south of Edinburgh. I am quite familiar with this town, because I have been living here for the last 14 years.
Even we don't miss out on the action.
