I touched on this a bit in a previous chapter, but since it's so common of a mistake, I'll repeat a lot of what I said. Most commonly, people will fail to use an apostrophe. An apostrophe is this thing: '. It's the same key on your keyboard as the quotation mark (don't laugh; I saw somebody use a grave accent (`) as an apostrophe). Do not use "dont," use "don't."

Keep in mind what words you are abbreviating for. Think about them. Replace the contraction with those words, and read it if it still makes sense. If it does make sense, then you're golden.
