That morning I joined Hans, Peter and my grandfather for breakfast. I woke up in a good mood, but nothing felt right. It was a different feeling, Within the twelve years I've been here I haven't felt this way. Like I was meant to do something.

Well Peter woke up first and he started on breakfast.

" Good morning." I told him as he set the table. I hoped up on the counter top and started looking at a book next to me. " What's this?"

" Oh your teacher came by and said you needed to finish that." He walked over to me and I took his hat off of him and put it on me. We both laughed. The door opened and a solider came in followed by five Jews. Both Peter and I stared as they walked threw the house. My face went blank. I gave the hat back to Peter.

" What's going on?"

" Remodeling I guess. Your grandfather was talking about getting them to help." He looked at me with a weird look on his face. He walked over put the hat back on my head and kissed me. " You can't try to protect them. There are too many of them. I just don't wanna see you get hurt in the end."He whispered in my ear.  I guess that made sense. I heard my grandfather walking down the stairs. I put the hat back on Peter and took my seat.

" Good morning Nim, Peter."

" Good morning." We both said.

" Have they arrived yet?" My grandfather took his seat.

" Yes sir." Peter said put the food on the plates.

" Nim if you need any help today tell one of them. They are here to move the old furniture out." Peter stared at me. Hans walked in and took a seat next to my grandfather, Peter sat next to me.

" If any of those ... people give anyone any problems just tell me." Hans was grumpy as always and didn't seem to give a care about them. " I don't think it's a good idea for them to be here."

" Well, no one else will have time to do it." The rest of the meal was eaten in silence. Just then I saw Elijah carrying a dresser outside.

" Excuse me." I put my plate up then ran outside. " Elijah!"

" Hey Nim." His face was beat up and bloody.

" What happened?"

" Oh nothing."

" It doesn't look like nothing. Upstairs third door on the left." I walked away and went into my room. Elijah came in a few minutes after.

" Come here." I took a sponge and wiped the blood off of his face.

" Why are you doing this?"

" Why shouldn't I ?"

" I don't know it just doesn't seem normal." Just then Peter walked threw the door. Elijah froze.

" Out now!" Elijah ran out. I sat on my bed and laid back.

" Go ahead."

" What?"

" Yell at me. Tell me that was the most stupidest thing ever. I don't care anymore. I get that I can't help all of them and that most of them are going to die, but Peter, Elijah is hurt and I'm helping him no matter what you think or what anyone else thinks." He sat next to me on my bed. He was silent and I was silent.

" My step-dad.He helped hide Jews and he died because of that . This may sound pretty weird, but I really like you and I don't want you to end up like him." He then stood up and left. I didn't leave my room for the rest of the day. When it was time for dinner I ate in my room and fell asleep.

I awoke in the middle of the night only to hear bombs bursting. I looked out my window only to see blurred flames in a distance. I ran into the hallway and went into Peter's room.

" Peter?" I sat next to him.

" Nim, what's wrong?"

" Somethings wrong with the camp." He put his hand on my face and looked at me with that look again. We both went to the window.

" Wait here." He left and was gone a while, but eventually came back.

" What's going on?" I said kneeling on his bed.

" Hans is going to take care of it." He then laid back done. I stormed out of the room and Peter grabbed my arm.

" You can't go out there, okay?" I just stared at him. He then let go and closed his door. I drifted down the stairs and as I got closer to the door I could here something. It sounded like rain on a window, but it could be gunshots in the distance. I ran outside to check on Oris.

" Oris, are you okay?" I could see a figure turning around on it's back. It was Oris.

" I am." I smiled.

" I will be right back."

" Be careful, Nim." I ran threw the feild that separated me from the camp and as I approached the forest I could see someone in the gates.

"Hans," No surprise. For the past few months I have realized he wasn't a good guy, but I saw him shooting them, shooting people. I didn't think he was that cruel.

" Nim you need to come with me ." A shaking hand touched my shoulder. I kept staring at Hans and he then stared back at me with a smile on his face. I turned around to see my grandfather standing there. I fell into his arms and we both walked back home. I could see Oris and motioned for him to get down. He did. As we went back my grandfather stayed silent ,didn't ask questions. He just went to bed, and so did I.

I couldn't sleep it was too late to sleep now, so I went looking around the house. I went in and out of big rooms flled with desks or books. When I got to one door I could here my grandfather. I peeked into the room unseen and listened.

" It's just a phase, right? She is just protective. " It sounded as if he was trying to convince himself, that what just happened didn't.

" Sir, if I may," Peter started talking to him. Why is he in there? " It's probably just because she doesn't know anything about them."

" Your right." He motioned his hands for Peter to leave, so he turned around and left. When I saw him walking toward the door I slipped into the other room. I looked at the room and the bed, the pictures. I soon realized it was Peter's room. I sat on his bed and looked at the painting on the ceiling.

" Nim, what are you doing in here?" Peter walked into the door dressed in full uniform.

" Uh I was just leaving." I stood up and walked out , but I was stopped at the door by Peter. " What?"

" What's wrong with you? I told you to stay."

" Well what's wrong with this?" I touched the shoulder pad on his uniform.

" It's my uniform."

" It's everyone else. You promised me. You said that you would be yourself. That's not just around me. In there you just ruined my life because now my grandfather probably has some big idea he is going to involve me in."

" Maybe that's what you need. Don't you get it. You can't save them. Nothing you do will help. NOTHING! You are nothing compared to all the soldiers. You," I walked away before he could finish his sentence. Before I could get to my room I heard Peter's door slam. I went into my room and tried to sleep.  As I slept I knew I wasn't planning to get up for a while.

The End
