SCENE 16 – INT. Hospital
DOCTOR: We’re doing everything we can.
CALLUM: Thank you.
DAD: He’ll be fine. Just needs the rest.
MUM: What the hell are you talking about? He’s in a coma. Do you not get that?
DAD: He’ll pull through.
CALLUM: That attack was savage and brutal.
DOCTOR: Your son is strong. People have died from less.
DAD: You two get off home. I’ll stay with him.
CALLUM: No. I think you’ve done enough damage.
MUM: Don’t Callum.
CALLUM: But it’s his fault! If he hadn’t pushed his stupid dream onto George then none of this would have happened!
DAD: George not only had the talent but he wanted it.
CALLUM: No he didn’t. You didn’t know him at all. He hated football and as much as it pains me to say, I bet he’s happy he doesn’t have to play that stupid game anymore.
MUM: Callum. We’re leaving now.
CALLUM: No. He needs to know the truth.
MUM: Here though?
CALLUM: Yes. I may be second best in your eyes but at least I respected you enough to tell you the truth. I honestly don’t know why I bothered.
DAD: You could have saved him if only you had done as you were told.
CALLUM: You do not control me.
DAD: We are your parents.
CALLUM: And? Doesn’t mean you’re allowed to make all of my decisions for me. It’s my life!
DAD: You don’t know what you want.
CALLUM: No actually I do. You just don’t know when to stop.
DAD: So what do you want?
CALLUM: To be as far away from you as possible.
DAD: I made you who you are!
CALLUM: Then I wish I was someone else.
(DAD storms off. Image flashes to hospital room. GEORGE is in the bed with CALLUM sitting by his side.)
CALLUM (VO): That night I stayed with George. I didn’t trust my father to do it at any rate. That night something strange happened. It felt like the entire world was sifting through my head as I slept. Like everything was changing around me. And it hurt. And when I woke up, I was a completely different person.
