Treading Water

I am writing this, because I absolutely cannot stand it when I write something without this little grey box being filled.

Treading Water

Verse One
Everytime I heal a scar, another wound takes its place
Everytime I lay it to rest, insecurity takes on a new face
I guess I used to think scaling a mountain was success
Now I see that every victory brings on a new mess

Chorus
I try not to walk up the down escalator
I try not to push on a pull door
I try not to drown in the waves
But all I do is tread water all the more

Verse Two
So this is the great reward I was promised I'd win
This endless cycle is my prize for never giving in
But going back to my chains means losing everything
All the hard work and all the learning and all the reasons to sing

Chorus
I try not to walk up the down escalator
I try not to push on a pull door
I try not to drown in the waves
But all I do is tread water all the more
I want to know why I keep doing this
I want to know, why do I ever bother
I want to reach the other side
Instead of treading water!

Bridge
In one ear and out the other
Everything You Are is smothered
How can I expect to win when I just run away
I can't swim the distance alone
I can't reach the other side on my own
When I can barely keep my head above  the waves

 Chorus
I try not to walk up the down escalator
I try not to push on a pull door
I try not to drown in the waves
But all I do is tread water all the more
I want to know why I keep doing this
I want to know, why do I ever bother
I want to reach the other side
Instead of treading water!

The End
