Popular Belief: Why God Has More Friends Than Me

Earlier today, I found myself praying to the Internet God to fix the wifi on campus so I could study for my Chem test. Yes, I said the Internet God. Just like the mayans would pray to the Sun God or the Rain God for good harvest weather, I was praying to the Internet God, because I really, really needed that wifi fixed. This situation was not unlike the many other times I cross my own beliefs to pray: it was out of my control. Wouldn't it be nice to have an all-powerful being on your side to fix stuff for you? Wouldn't it be great if by sitting around and thinking about something really really hard you could make the situation better? Wouldn't it be wonderful if no situation were out of your control? The Mayans and Mesopotamians and Egyptians thought so too.

The End
