The Perfect Quote
How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard. ~Carol Sobieski and Thomas Meehan, Annie
At exactly 11:00 a.m on Thursday of May 20th in the year 2010, school went off. There were sad faces everywhere I went. My heart felt shattered inside knowing that I wouldn't be able to stand on the ground I was standing on right now, to smell the dust of the scorching Sahel that I was smelling right now, to hear the soft wind blowing around; I wasn't going to be able to do these things for some time now.
But what hurt the most was knowing that this was the first and last goodbye I was saying to some of my closest friends. It hadn't hit me that morning that I was not going to see them again for a LONG time after this. But when it did, it hit me with a BANG. The tears didn't stop. Saying goodbye to my closest friends Soph and LJ was quite a heart break. I had hugged them around 50 times that day.
My fellow actor in the musical that I had participated in that school year was moved to tears. He played the role of Horton the Elephant while I played Gertrude McFuzz for "Seussical the Musical Jr". We were quite good friends during that school year and I had gotten to know him better. Being one of the jokers of our usual group, he was always laughing and saying something stupid. But for the first time in my life, I saw him in tears as we embraced each other and cried.
Later on when I returned home after all the goodbyes I'd said, I went online and looked up quotes. Often a habit of mine when I was feeling overwhelmed or "emo". That's when I find that perfect quote I needed at that time.
"How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard."
Oh yeah…how lucky I am…
