Time

Note: this is not my best song but also not my worst. It's about two people finally getting together after years of being apart. I'm currently trying to write songs which explore different aspects of relationships other than "breakups are bad" and "being in a relationship is good."

Time

Two months before summer, he asked her to prom
She said "Yes, I've been hoping you'd ask for a long time."
But when the night came, they danced just as friends
And agreed at that moment, it was simply the wrong time
To love

Together, they opened their eyes
And they flew, they flew into the skies
And although they set forth to different destinations
They set their ambitions without expectations
Like two turtle doves, they flew
Like two turtle doves, they flew

So, about ten years later, he saw her in town
"You've got beautiful children. They look just like you."
And she smiled as he said it, but when their eyes met
They knew at that moment, it was simply the wrong time, too

Together, they opened their eyes
And they flew, they flew into the skies
And although they set forth to different destinations
They set their ambitions without expectations
Like two turtle doves, they flew
Like two turtle doves, they flew

At the altar
He said "I've finally gotcha."
And she said "I've got you, too
"Because now I know
"It's the right time to love you."

Together, they opened their eyes
And they flew, they flew into the skies
And although they set forth to different destinations
They set their ambitions without expectations
Like two turtle doves, they flew
Like two turtle doves, they flew

The End
