SCENE I: Opening Scene
INT. THE BRAWLER PUB - LOWER LEVEL RING - NIGHT
Scene opens in a grungy fighting ring surrounded by a thick crowd, loudly calling their bets as a brutal fight takes place in the center of the ring between two mammoth men. The bell sounds declaring the end of the round just as one giant skull cracks against the bloody concrete floor. The name of the winner is drowned by the roaring din of the celebrating crowd. In the corner, two unremarkable men are having a conversation.
You’re a fool to put your money on him. Your wife will be displeased when you return home with empty pockets.
shaking head, unoffended
You will see, Samir. I’ve never seen a contestant that fights so organically.
Poets have never made good betters, Aseem… too much sentimentality running through your veins.
INT. THE BRAWLER PUB – LOWER LEVEL RING – NIGHT
ALADDIN shakes out his nerves on the edge of the ring, waiting for the first bell. His competitor, the survivor of the last fight, QARIN, imitates his motions though they are awkward and stilted performed by his swollen musculature. The bell sounds and they lunge for each other, already swinging and ducking; QARIN moves like a shadow to ALADDIN, but ALADDIN is quicker. Taking not a single hit, ALADDIN lands the third of a trifecta of blows to QARIN’S face, knocking him out cold. For an instant, the crowd is silent, until one man in the back (ASEEM) laughs.
