I'm gonna be 100% honest with you all: I have been dreading writing this chapter. It's a huge part of the story, but there's so much to say that I've been feeling overwhelmed about what to write. I also don't want to betray any confidences that Idina had told us, so I'm going to have to be very selective about what I say.
The Truth in Love began with Idina sharing what had brought about her eating disorder. There were many components that all added up to her anorexia: things like the stress of trying to be perfect when our oldest sister was into drugs and such, having friends that encouraged her to only be skinny, and ultimately moving to another state, where we attended a church that unintentionally hurt her by trying to get her to conform to their rules.
Idina explained to us that not only was the anorexia about being skinny, but it was also about control. See, when we moved, it felt like everything was out of control for her. Everything felt beyond her reach. So she controlled the one thing she could: what went into her mouth.
