So while I was downstairs, throwing up, my sister was upstairs, becoming equally sick. She couldn't go to the hospital the next day because soon enough, she'd contracted the flu, too. Believe it or not, it was the calm in the storm that my parents needed in order to figure out what to do with Idina.
While surfing the net, my parents came across an eating disorder treatment facility called "Remuda Ranch." It was crazy expensive - $172,000 for two months, I think. I could have that wrong, but basically, it was more money than we had.
And then, God did the most amazing thing in the world!
You see, we'd moved to another state about a year from then for my dad's job. He was a professor, and the college we'd moved to had such excellent health insurance that we had to pay only several thousand dollars instead of the whopping $172,000.
If I'd had any doubts that God was watching over us, they were abolished right then and there. By the end of the week, while Idina and I were still recovering from the stomach bug, my parents had arranged for Idina to live at Remuda Ranch.
The only catch was that Remuda Ranch was in Arizona...2,000 miles away from me.
