Speed of Life

Recommend

January 2011

"Enjoy her now as a baby, because before you know it she'll be all grown up."

That's what I used to hear a lot when my daughter was still a baby. I was so overwhelmed by the constant bottle feedings, diaper changes, colic, doctor visits, and endless vigilance that I didn't really stop to think about what this really meant. Actually, back then experiencing a moment when our daughter was self-reliant sounded really good to me.

Now that she's ten years old, I wish I could go back to when she was a baby so that I can hold her in my arms again.

Well, since time travel is out of the question and we're not due to have a third, the best thing I can do is to try to enjoy my moments as a parent while my kids are still . . . well, kids. I'd also like to capture the other moments that make life interesting, such as what I do at work, marriage life, or just observations. This could almost count as an autobiography, but I doubt I will get so deep.

Actually, what I do hope is that others will like my idea and then jump in with other stories or observations from their life as well. This will help spice up this work, and give me something else to read for a change.

If this works out, I'm going to start a new collaborative story every month, so if you feel that you've missed out for January there will another.

ng23055 Even though "Speed of Life" reads like a memoir, it should be thought of as a collaborative project. Think "Experience Project" meets Anthology.

At any rate, I do hope to start a new one of these each month.
