Name: Mindi Ikkoku (Well, not really. It's my author alias. Call me 'Min' or 'Mindi')
Age: Oh, don't you wish you knew?
How old were you when you started writing? When did you start?
I was eight years old in third grade when I began writing. My teacher asked us to write a short story so I did and I really liked doing it.
What was your first story, could we read it?
My first story was called, "To Live or To Die" or something like that. It was about a kidnapping and four kids traveling over state lines to save the brother of two of them. I could try to find it and post it on here, but I doubt I will. I could recreate it, though, it was never well-put together.
What are you working on right now?
At present, I am working on a project that has taken about three years to do. It has changed several times (the title, the plot, the protagonists, etc.) and I think I have finally come to a decision for where I want it to go and when I want it to be done. It's called "SEQA" and, yes, they are capitalized for a reason. No, you don't get to know.
Where do you get inspiration?
My inspiration is...nearly everything. My true inspiration is my best friend who has stood by me these past years to help me with my writing. Her support has truly kept me going with writing and I'm glad I have her to thank.
When is your favorite time to write?
Usually it comes and goes. Whenever I feel like writing, I will write if my computer is around, or if I have pen and paper ready. If I don't feel like writing, I don't. Usually when I force myself, it sounds forced. And then I get writer's block. But, usually, some music is playing in the background and I'm in my room.
Do you prefer collaborative works or Solo, do you like both?
I love to roleplay with my friend on another site, and that is the only collab work I'm willing to do. Otherwise, when it comes to writing stories, I prefer to go solo. That's basically for everything, though. I hate group projects, and I hate having to rely on someone else for information or for work. And if things are not right, it's a ***** trying to correct. So I try my best to stick by myself.
How did you find Protagonize, are you on any other popular writing sites (Booksie, Smashwords, Wattpad, ect.)
Well, I got tired of Wattpad, a crappy site focused solely on popularity. Basically, it became nothing but a contest and the worst books were being promoted. People never commented what they thought besides a teeny "good job" or "i luv it, keep it up!" and that really irked me. I decided to step off of that site and went in search of another. Thus, I found Protagonize. I like it because the air isn't competitive and I can get actual comments on my work. People don't argue over the stupid things here and there's no low-class drama.
I think I'm on Smashwords, but I don't use it. I'm on Figment, too, as Olathe, but I don't really use that either.
Anything else that you would like to share about yourself or your writing?
With my writing, one doesn't normally know what to expect. My friend knows, usually, because she's known me and knows my characters, but it is hard to judge what the **** is going to happen in my books. Sometimes, on a whim, I decide that the protagonist will die. Or everyone's favorite character.
But that's not because I hate people or my characters. It is usually to prove a point or point out a theme. Bad things happen to good people, maybe, or whatever. With SEQA, there may very well be many unpleasant and pleasant surprises. I don't know if it will be posted on here or not (and likely will not be) but it will eventually be on Amazon or something like that, as an e-book and then maybe in print.
And me? I'm an atheist realist introvert with little tolerance for stupidity and grammatical errors. I don't think I would ever use anything grammatically incorrect and anything I write unless I am chatting and even then, I avoid anything grammatically incorrect. Bad habits form through many mediums, my friend. And, also, when I intend to write small responses to things, they're much...much larger. As you can see. Well! This is me. And I have poems and short stories up currently. I intend to write another short story soon and will let anyone who cares know when SEQA is done. Maybe someone can take place as an editor? Au revoir.
