Scene 6

SCENE 6

ELLIE’S HOUSE – INTERIOR – BEDROOM – TEN MINUTES LATER

ELLIE

You’re right. It helps.

KATE

I’m always right.

ELLIE

Well …

KATE

I am! That’s why you’re so lucky to have me as a friend – because I’m awesome and I’m always right.

ELLIE

How come you failed your exams last month?

KATE

I didn’t! How dare you?!

[a pillow fight ensues. It looks like KATE is winning until ELLIE clobbers her round the head with a pillow and she falls off the bed. KATE then climbs back up and pushes ELLIE off. After a few more minutes they collapse in laughter.]

ELLIE

I win.

KATE

No, I do.

ELLIE

So, what happens now? I mean, I’ve just been dumped, and I’ve spilled out my life story to you, then had an epic pillow fight in front of an unsuspecting audience – that can’t be the end of the play, surely?

KATE

No – the poor old author’s gotta write one hundred pages.

[they look at each other in alarm]

ELLIE

A hundred pages about us?

KATE

I guess so! And what’s more, she’s got a time limit. She’s only got three weeks.

ELLIE

That sounds like one of my worse nightmares. I’m so glad I’m not her.

KATE

The only thing is … whatever she chooses to write about us…

[pause]

ELLIE

Yes? What about it?

KATE

Whatever she chooses to write … it happens.

ELLIE

You mean, she decided that Matt would dump me? Well, thanks a bunch!

KATE

[puzzled] I don’t know. I hadn’t thought of that. I guess so, yes.

ELLIE

Right – that is it. I’m getting out of here.

[ELLIE walks to the edge of the stage. Then she remembers something. She walks back and grabs a pillow off the bed, and throws it at KATE. Then she walks back towards the edge of the stage.]

I win. Hah.

[BLACKOUT]
