Ma'at was said to be the daughter of the sun god Ra, and would ride with him in his solar boat and direct his course. It is often depicted that Thoth, her husband and god of the moon, would also ride with them.
She was said to have had eight children with Thoth. These children were the chief gods of Hermopolis, and according to the priests there, created the earth and everything in it.
It is presumed that she is the sister of Seshat, another of Thoth's wives. Not much is known about their relationship, and is mere specualtion. It is also possible that she was Ma'at and Thoth's daughter.
