But it Isn't Easy

Every writer's dream is the same, I like to think: Being published one day.

Whether it's a journal, a blog, a newspaper, or a book, seeing our names in print is a beautiful thing indeed. Well, I've reached that beautiful moment: My manuscript has been approved for a book.

Here's the thing, though. Publishing isn't what it used to be like. Unless you have a literary agent, which can take A LONG TIME from my experience (I reached out to several agents six months ago and still have yet to hear from them), your choices of publishers are few and far between. A lot of them are now offering to help you with a bit of an investment on your part.

I'm sure a lot of you don't know my story.

I was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was 12 and have suffered from seizures ever since. Then, when I was 21, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. At the same time, following a long series of traumatic events in my life, I was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

It's really hard living like this. I can't live on my own so I'm still with my parents. I can't have a normal job so I get work where I can as a writer/remote secretary. I have a service dog which has made my life ten times better but it still gets hard maintaining a life, both financial and social.

Writing is the only reason I have not gone insane and now there are people who want to share it. In order to help fund this, I have set up a Kickstarter since, as I said, I don't have a good source of income.

People keep talking about how I shouldn't have to pay to be published. If that's your concern, too, here's what they're doing for me:

Finding an editor
Finding an illustrator (turns out, drawing is definitely not my forte)
Getting the copyright
Getting the ISBN

They're saving me a lot of time and money. The publisher is Page Publishing and I'm very pleased with all they've done to help me.

So, if you find it in your heart to help me out, I would greatly appreciate it. Here's the link. If you can't help financially, prayers, good thoughts, and good vibes are just as needed.

The End
