A few weeks ago someone asked me why I see video game character Lara Croft (Tomb Raider) as so brilliant. I can remeber the old games from my childhood, and, unlike the more popular Disney Princesses and Barbie, she actually has some personality and makes her own decisions. Then they asked me if I was feminist or something. I didn't know what it meant though.
"Someone who hates men." They said.
Later I looked it up.
.1.advocating social, political, legal, and economic rights forwomen equal
to those of men
1.to speak or write in favor of; support or urge by argument;recommend
Since when did promoting women's rights involve hating men?
Or, as other people think, not wearing makeup or skirts?
I know that I am a feminist because I support women's rights. I believe that prejudice in ANY form is wrong. So do to so I can't like pink (my favourite colour actually) or wear dresses or cook? Surely everyone can dress how they want to?
If you think about it, this idea of what feminists should wear goes against all their opinions. As in appearances aren't that important, or being proud to be female and giving women freedom to make their own decisions.
I suppose it's not as bad as people who think women are lesser beings though, I suppose.
People's rights should be the same, NOT the people. Different is cool!
