Preparing for University

EXT. THE MAXWELL HOUSE - MORNING

               September, 1971

Emily and Joanie are loading armfuls of books into the trunk
of the family car, along with suitcases.

                                          EMILY
                              I don't know why we're going to
live in the dorms of Ottawa
                              University. We only live seven
miles away, in Manotick. we could
                              commute.

                                          JOANIE
You know perfectly well why. To
begin with, neither one of us
have our licence - or a car. It's
cheaper to live in the dorms than
buy us a car. Also, our schedules
are all over the map. If we
                              weren't sharing the same dorm
room, we'd never see each other
at all. Dad or Kyle will come get
                              us on the weekends.

                                          EMILY
I know, but David's shifts are
changing, he'll be working a lot
of the time that I'll be in
                              class.

                                          JOANIE
                              I know, that sucks. I won't be
able to see Stuart much either. I
think I'll just be living for the
weekends all the time I'm in
                              school.

                                          EMILY
You've been seeing a lot of Stuart
lately. Both of you seem to be
coming out of your shy shells.
I'm so glad that the two of you
got together. You seem to be made
                              for each other.

                                          JOANIE
I think so too. He sure is a lot
                              better choice than Jeff Pike!

The girls finish loading, and get into the back seat. Barry
is driving, and Colleen is in the passengers' seat. They
               drive away.

The End
