Under The Mistletoe

INT. LARSON LIVING ROOM - EVENING

The tree is nicely decorated in the corner. The room lights
are dim. The tree lights twinkle on and off. Emily stands
on a step stool to attach a small branch of mistletoe
berries beneath the chandelier. David enters and puts his
hands on her waist to steady her.

                                          DAVID
What are you, the mistletoe fairy?
Wherever you go you put up
                              mistletoe. Everybody just ignores
                              it, so what's the point?

They are face to face as she stands on the stool. She puts
her arms around his shoulders and leans in to him.

                                          EMILY
                              This is the point!!

Her lips meet his in a long sensual kiss. He puts his arms
               around her and responds enthusiastically.

Joanie enters the room, talking as she goes.

                                          JOANIE
There you are. I wondered where
you two went. We're already to
                              play Monopol....

Joanie stops as she sees what David and Emily are doing.

                                          JOANIE
                              Sorry!!!

She runs back out. She speaks unseen, from another room.

                                          JOANIE
                              They're still working on the
                              decorations...I think. They can
                              join us later.

David and Emily break apart abruptly. She steps back and
nearly falls off the stool. He holds her waist and lifts
               her down. Both blush profusely.

                                          DAVID
                              I..um..we better go back in.

He turns away, but Emily's hand on his arm prevents him from
               going any futher.

                                          EMILY
Wait a minute, I want to ask you
                              something. Why haven't you ever
asked me out? You know I wouldn't
                              have turned you down.

                                          DAVID
I haven't asked you out for the
same reason I never asked Joanie.
It would have been like dating my
                              sister.

Furious, Emily suddenly slaps him across the face. Sobbing
and blurting her words, she raises her voice, but not
enough for the people in the other room to hear her.

                                          EMILY
                              Your ss...sis..ter!! You think of
me as a @#$%%^& sister!!! Dddid
that .. kkk...kiss feel like it
                              came from a. ss..sis..ster!!!???

Weeping uncontrollably, she marches to the foyer which is
just off the living room. She hastily dons her coat and
               boots and leaves.

                                          DAVID
                              Oh crap!

mumbling to himself, he rubs his cheek where Emily's slap
has left a dark red mark.

                                          DAVID
                              Stupid stupid stupid! She may
                              never forgive me. Oh crap!

David goes to the door into the next room and sticks his
head in to address his parents, Kyle and Joanie. He's
careful to conceal his red cheek against the door jamb.

                                          DAVID
                              I'm tired. I don't really feel
                              like playing Monopoly.I'm going
up to bed. Oh yeah, if you're
looking for Emily, she went home.

David turns and leaves by another door.

The End
