EXT. THE LARSON FRONT WALK - DAY

November, 1969 - The boys are wearing winter outerwear.

There are snowbanks along the sidewalk, and David and Kyle
stand in front of the house, waiting for the Postman.

                                          DAVID
                                     (shivering)
                              I can't believe it's this cold,
                              and it's only November!

                                          KYLE
If Larry doesn't get here soon,
he's going to find a couple of
                              Popsicles standing here.

Kyle stamps his feet and rubs his gloved hands together for
heat. Larry the postman walks towards the two boys.

                                          LARRY
                                     (amused)
You two boys are going to shiver
                              yourselves right out of your
                              skins! You could have waited
inside, you know. I do deliver to
                              the door.

                                          DAVID
I know, but we're waiting for
                              something really important. My
mom got sick of us pacing inside
the front door. She said we were
going to wear a hole in the
                              carpet.

                                          KYLE
Yeah. She didn't exactly kick us
out, but she didn't stop us from
                              going out, either.

                                          LARRY
                              Alright, if it's that important,
                              I'll deliver your mail right
                              here. How's that?

                                          DAVID
                              That would be good, thanks.

Larry takes his leather pouch off his shoulder and perches
it on the waist high snowbank. He searches through it.

                                          LARRY
                              Here we go, Larson.

He hands David several letters and a magazine. Kyle steps
forward as David starts going through the letters.

                                          LARRY
                                     (searching)
                              ....And here's Maxwell.

He hands Kyle a few letters, and Kyle goes through them.
Larry walks on down the street, whistling a tune.

                                          DAVID
                              It's here, It's here Kyle!

David holds up a thick business size letter and waves it
around a minute, then reads out the return address on it.

                                          DAVID
                              It's from the Ontario Provincial
                              Police Recruitment Office. Did
                              you get one Kyle?

                                          KYLE
Yeah, here it is. Let's go to my
place to look at them. Mom is
                              making vegetable soup for lunch.

                                          DAVID
                              Sounds good to me.

The boys walk across the street and into the Maxwell house.

The End
