Dow's lake

EXT. DOW'S LAKE - DAY

August, 1959 - canoing on the lake in Ottawa

The girls are now six, and they are in one canoe with
Kyle's parents. The boys are now eight, and they are in
another canoe a short distance away with David's parents.

                                          JOANIE
                                     (waving)
                              Hi David, Hi Kyle

                                          BARRY
Stop waving and moving around so
                              much Joanie, you're rocking the
                              boat.

                                          EMILY
Yeah, stop it Joanie, I don't like
it. I don't feel so good.

                                           COLLEEN
Why don't you sit in the
                              bottom,Emily? you won't feel the
rocking so much. The wind is
                              getting up,and the water is
getting a little choppy. Maybe we
                              should head in now, Barry.

                                          BARRY
                              Good idea, dear. The waves
are getting rather high. I'm glad
that the canoe rental place had
enough life jackets to fit all of
                              us.

Barry turns the canoe around as the waves lap up the sides.
               The boat rocks wildly.

                                          EMILY

                                     (gags)Oh.. ugh
                                     I'mmm...sickk.
                                     .mommy..I'm
                                     gonna...puke!

Emily makes a sudden lunge to the side and vomits. The canoe
tips to that side and Emily falls out, screaming. As she
falls, the canoe is pushed away when her feet hit it.

                                          COLLEEN
                              (frantically)
                              Stop struggling,honey, the life
jacket will keep you afloat. Try
to keep your head above water.
                              Try to grab my oar.

She holds her oar out to Emily, who is bobbing up and down
in the water as she kicks and screams. Her terrified
splashing has taken her further away.

                                          BARRY
                                     (calling)
Remember what you took in swimming
class, Emily. Try to tread water!
                              We're coming to get you!!

The End
