Enter chorus dressed as mourners and some keening loudly. Six carry a small coffin and deposit it over grave. All assemble around the coffin further upstage and priest begins the funeral sevice by muttering the language in latin.
Priest:Requiem æternam dona eis, Domine,
et lux perpetua luceat eis.
Te decet hymnus Deus, in Sion,
et tibi reddetur votum in Ierusalem.
Exaudi orationem meam;
ad te omnis caro veniet.
Requiem æternam dona eis, Domine,
et lux perpetua luceat eis. (slowly fades voice downward)
Enter Little Girl by a gravestone marked Petey Leland
Little Girl: I don't understand what's happened to me. Everything is so weird now. I felt my fever grow but now that I feel better, everyone's crying and can't see me anymore. They say "She's dead!" over and over again. I'm not, I'm right here! You can see me, right? Then why can't they?
[play asleep reprise* in the background]
Little Girl: There's Momma and Daddy there (points) and Aunt Maude and Uncle Whillouby and Grandmother Leland. There's many relatives here, I guess they must miss me here. They all looked so worried when I started coughing, saying "Oh no, not her too!" Uncle Petey caught it before me and I never saw him again. Maybe he's like me where nobody can see him either. I just hope whatever's happened, everything turns out okay soon.
Priest:Pie Jesu Domine, dona eis requiem.
Dona eis requiem sempiternam.
