Most thought provoking lyric: These words are knives and often leave scars
The struggle spoken of in this song is very close to my heart. The songwriter, Brendon Urie, wrote it about the drummer of his band, Spencer Smith, who was struggling with drug addiction at the time. I can relate to the lyrics because I was constantly in a very dark place during the fifth and sixth grade. I was basically fighting for my life, but I was fighting for my life against myself. The lyrics "If you love me let me go" can be interpreted in two ways when applied to my life. One way is positive: asking the dark thoughts to leave me alone. The other way is negative: the dark thoughts asking me to let go of life itself.
