Anxiety

Recommend

People say that anxiety disorders are just a made up thing. If you're one of those people, this might be something you need to read. I want you to think back to the last time that something made you anxious, something like waiting for the results of a blood test, or to hear from the hospital about the condition of a loved one, or waiting to see if you've made it into the school that you've been waiting years to get into. Think back to that in your mind, remember just how it felt. Now, imagine that you felt like that for days on end without warning. Worse, you don't know why you're feeling that way. Just like with that time where you were anxious,  you might not want to eat, or talk to anybody, or be able to sleep, or even be able to think logically. You can't just decide to stop being anxious, the anxiety doesn't go away until the problem is resolved.

That's what it's like to have an anxiety disorder, except that feeling of calm doesn't come back because the resolution of the problem doesn't happen so the feeling can't end. I want you to imagine that, then tell me it's no big deal.
