Out of madness they drag her to the city square and threaten to have her burnt to the stake for witch craft. They all began to argue with her as she pleads for help. Nothing’s hope is almost lost when the prince runs into the square screaming his love for Nothing. All of the girls are quite in shock and stare at him in awe. ACT II

Setting: In a radiant garden on the grounds of the Royale Palace. It is a beautiful morning.

Therese: (runs up to Prince Albert who is joyfully talking to Odette) “Oh how are you Prince Albert?” She slightly bows her head.

Odette: She stands quietly, looking a Therese like dirt.

Prince Albert: He is oblivious to the girl’s behavior “Oh…I’m doing well. The King is so sick though. I don’t know how our kingdom will survive under the Chancellor rule. The King is my father; I should be able to fill in when he is ill. I do say that is a very beautiful tea gown you’re wearing.” Therese blushes and Albert grabs her arm. They begin to walk…Odette is frustrated.

Odette: “Wait! Wait! What about me?” she stomps her foot and walks over to talk with the other guests.

Therese: “Thank you very much your Highness. I do love it myself. That tailor you sent me was most brilliant!”

Prince Albert: “Oh, yes. Lenard is quite wonderful. The suit I’m wearing was only made yesterday.”

Therese: “Only yesterday? Oh my!” She covers her mouth in playful shock.

Prince Albert: “Oh Therese! Don’t act so shocked! You your self could whip up a gown in a second…With your elven powers.”Prince Albert yawns covering his mouth as if he is bored. Therese is outstanded.

Therese: “Albert you’re yawing as if you’re bored! From my land if you yawn in public you tongue is chopped off!”

Prince Albert: “Well in my land if you make such a remark…you are thought uncivil!” He says this playful making Therese laugh. “Sometimes, my elfish friend, I think you get to manly for this land…but who you are is who you are!”

Therese: “Oh how wisely you speak!” Therese daringly kisses Albert on the cheek. Prince Albert smiles and touches her cheek. The other guests gasp in horror. Odette runs over and slaps Therese.

Odette: “I say! You and your elfish ways have got to go! He is a prince…the prince! No one as low class as you can dare touch that precious skin!” Odette stomps her foot and sticks her nose up in the air. Therese shows no emotion.

Therese: “Sorry Albert, I’m afraid I have interrupted this civil festivity.” Shows no emotion bows her head, and walks briskly off the stage. All the guests go back to what they were doing.

Odette: “Serves her right! Elves are such low class…well they have money, but they just aren’t worth our time. Such uncivil people. Truthfully I don’t care about them…just that one.” She throws her arms in the direction Therese had exited.

Prince Albert: “Oh Odette! You shouldn’t fret so! She is really just like us.”

Odette: “I just don’t understand how you can tolerate her! You told me that you loved me…yet you let her peck your cheek. You do love me though…don’t you?”

Prince Albert: throws his hands into the air, “Of course I love you! Why wouldn’t I? Out of the maidens I have met you have been the only one who doesn’t milk cows or clean houses.”

Odette: “Oh Albert! You sure know how to make a fool of yourself! I have no intention of ever becoming a maid! Or being called one!” Albert laughs and they walk off the stage.

                                                            Curtain Call

Setting: Duke Brimmings dining room-guests are scattered within.

Pippa: “Duke Brimmings! Duke Brimmings!” She waves her hand beckoning the Duke to come over to her. The Duke smiles, walks over, and kisses her hand. Pippa giggles.

Duke Brimmings: “How is thee?”

Pippa: “Oh! You so old fashion Duke Brimmings! But that is why I love you! You know you look so much like the prince...except you are more handsome! Why don’t you ever invite him to you parties?”

Duke: “Oh, we don’t get along very well…even since he gave me that cold last week I have decided not to invite him here again.” He smiles and walks her around the room. Guest whisper with each other.

Pippa: “Oh, you mean that ball you were going to have last week, but you canceled it because of the cold. The Prince had a cold at the same time he had to council is party to! I say you to really don’t get along?”

Duke: “No, sadly. But let us not dwell on that my darling!”

Patricia: Suddenly Patricia arrives. Everyone is quite as the duchess crosses the stage to the Duke. They smile at each other. The Duke kisses her hand and the guests resume.

Duke: “Oh lovely it is to see you again Duchess.”

Patricia: “Please call me Patricia. So where is your little friend?” Pippa has suddenly disappeared.

Duke: “Maybe she was feeling under-the-weather.”

Patricia: “Yes…maybe.” She looks around as if disgusted. “Well I just wanted to tell you, I have read the best book!”

Duke: “Really? That is what I love about you, you actually read.” The Duke laughs, she grins.

Patricia: “Yes well, thank you. It is called the Sorceress Love. My governess gave it to me a very long time ago! It is about a Duke who marries a beautiful sorceress!” They lean in a little closer together.

Duke: “Now that is quite peculiar.” For a minute they stand dangerously close to each other, looking very eager to kiss.

Pippa: “Duke Brimmings! Come over here! I have a marvelous story to tell you!” Pippa pokes her head through the side of the stage. The Duke laughs, kisses the duchesses hand than leaves. Patricia put her hand on her hips and angrily walks off the stage. The guests follow.

                                                            Act III

Setting: All of the girls are in a row on the stage writing in diaries. Prince Albert/Duke is at the very end passing back and forth. He passes until it is his turn to speak.

Odette: All of the girls are frozen in place, only Odette moves and talks. “Oh, Albert…Albert…Albert…Albert…he is my prince. No one else will have him, only I can! I am so much better than Therese. That elfish dog! They way those people dress are outstanding! Any way…..

For what seems like a million years I have been trying and trying to make him love only me…but, I know that his eyes also gave on Therese! What shall I do?!” (Pause, she looks up at the ceiling. She gasps as an idea pops into her mind) “I know who can help me. The witch Nothing! Oh I am brilliant! Most brilliant! This is exciting! At once I shall go to her tavern and request her help! Oh thank you dairy!” Odette tosses the diary down and runs off stage.

Therese: unfreezes and opens her dairy. “Oh dairy, I can’t express my love for the Prince. I am troubled though…he seems to have affection towards Odette! What a snob! Back in the woodland forest, my people would’ve chosen me to have him. Maybe that’s what I shall do. Take him to my people and ask them if we should marry. I know they will say yes….” (Therese stop writing for one moment than looks at the audience, puzzled) “My land is too far away, but ah! (Therese begins to pace) There is legend of a witch named Nothing…Clara Nothing! I will go to her! If only I myself had enough power to make him love only me!” Odette drops her diary to the floor and runs off the stage the same way Odette did.

Pippa: unfreezes and writes in her journal vigorously.  “I shunt be shy, so here it comes…I love the Duke! Oh I cannot even express! My heart flutters when he calls me! My stomach aches when I see him! If only he loved only me…oh Patricia…how much more porcine can she get?! The Duke and I could be happily married, well I would change some of those dreary decorations on his wall…eww…but oh! I can no longer resist! If only his heart only faced me. Why can’t I be Hera, the Greek goddess? Than I could send Cupid to make the Duke love only me!” She pauses smiling dreamily. Suddenly her face goes blank.

“Haha! An idea as formed! Nothing the witch! I will go and plead for her help! And I would be using Patricia’s own scholar to help me! I have to hurray before Patricia think the same…I can only hope Patricia is not powerful enough to charm the Duke! Oh!” Pippa drops the diary and runs the same way Odette did, giggling.

Patricia: unfreezes. “I don’t know what to say. I love him…the Duke. If only that gaggling little tart would get out of my way. He obviously loves me more. So I hope any. If only I had enough magic to make him love me…me alone.

Magic lessons went well today. I expressed my feelings to Clara. She only smiles than teaches me how to make my hair things look like diamonds. I know she is distracting me from bringing up the subject of her lover…whoever he may be. I don’t know what else to write right now…

Wait a minute; maybe if I gave her some chocolate and an extra payment, she’ll help me. Help me make the Duke love me.” Patricia drops the diary and runs off stage.

Prince Albert/Duke: He stops passing facing the audience. “Which one? Which one? I don’t really love any of them, the way they think I do. My disguise hasn’t been helping very much at all. I f only…..if only….aw…no she’ll never love me again.” He grabs a letter from his pocket, Clara’s voice echoes on the stage.

            “Dear friend,

I miss you too, but cannot tell you where I am living. My heart will always be yours….remember. But I must continue my witch craft. I have heard that my student is in deep love with you. I laugh when I think of us. I am sorry that you will never believe that you are under a curse.

                                                                        Always there,

Prince Albert chokes up and doesn’t continue. “Curse…curse…I just don’t believe it. She would’ve surely made me a frog or some hideous creature…knowing her. I guess my only choice is moving on. I just don’t know who I love. Everytime I see a women my heart flutters violently….why?” Prince Albert throws the letter to the ground. For a minute he stares down at it, and then he falls to the floor, and stares at the letter.

Curtain call

Setting: Clara Nothing’s shack.

Odette: Is sitting impatiently sipping a glass of tea. Clara walks over smiling cleverly.

Clara: “So you think that I can help you?” She sips some of her tea.

Odette: “Yes. Now please help. I don’t have time for this rubbish, witch.” Clara smirks at Odette’s rude behavior.

Clara: “Alright…” Clara reaches into her skirts and pulls out a smooth rock, “Wish upon this rock, rub it twice, spin around three times, than through it into a body of water.”

Odette: snatches it a puts it into her money bag. “Than-” she was about to say thank you, “I will see you if it doesn’t work.”

Clara: “That will be two pence, are you sure you don’t need me to repeat the instructions?”

Odette: “I will come back and give you a pound, if it works. And don’t treat me like a mindless elephant, I don’t need things repeated.” With that she turns and exits opposite side she entered. Clara get’s up and looks astonished. Suddenly another young girl comes in.

Therese: “Hello Witch Nothing. I am Therese, a citizen of Nersea, the elfin realm.”

Clara: Waking up from her shock she smiles at Therese.

“Oh, I am much honored! I haven’t seen an elf for some time.”

Therese: “No one has been so pleased to see me until now.” Therese makes herself at home and sits at the table.

Clara: “What would you like?”

Therese: “I need a certain man to love only me. I was hoping you would help me.”

Clara: “Only if you promise to pay me…my last visitor left without giving me a single shilling and I gave her something rather expensive. Do you want a potion? Stone? Charm? Spell?”

Therese: “My people don’t believe in spells from you kind, so I think a potion will do. Potions are you know, better. They’re easy to slip into people’s cups. Masterminds always use potions…I would like to be one…one day.” Clara nods her head. Clara digs through her pocket bag and pulls out a small bottle.

Clara: “Give this to your lover at exactly midnight, make sure one of your hairs is cut up and put into it.”

Therese: “Why do humans always do things at midnight? It’s quite ridiculous. Well any way thank you very much.  Here are you shillings.” Therese gets up hands Clara a few shillings, then leaves.

Clara: “I can only hope this potion isn’t for Prince Albert. Poor Albert. If only I could-” Clara is cut off when another young girl enters the room.

Patricia: “Witch Nothing.” They bow their heads together.

Clara: “My dear student, what would you like?” They hold each other’s hands.

Patricia: “Well I brought you a box of chocolates and an extra pound for spending.”

Clara: “Why on earth?” For a moment it is silent. “Aright come out with it.” Clara leads Patricia to a chair.

Patricia: “I have fallen in love with-”

Clara: “Yes, a young suitor and you want something that will make him love only you. That young man is Duke Brimmings. Here…have the charm. Have it inserted on a ring and give the ring to him. The scrapes of the metal that made the ring should be kept.” Clara pulls the charm out and gives it to Patricia.   Patricia hugs her, grabs the charm, and leaves her bribes behind.

Clara: Once she leaves Clara begins to pace. “This is not going to be good. I vowed that I must sell whatever will help the customer; I can’t take it back or put a spell on the items. If all of the girls do this, all three, Albert will explode. There is only one thing that will help. I will put another curse-” She is interrupted as Pippa emerges in.

Pippa: She does a quick bow than runs over to Witch Nothing. “Please help me!” She looks on the verge of tears.

Clara: She rolls her eyes and puts her hands in the air. “I know why you’re here.”

Pippa: smiles and her eyes widened. “You do?”

Clara: “You are in love with the Duke Brimmings.” Pippa nodes her head excitedly. “Here,” Clara gives Pippa a small flower, “wear this at the next event he is at. The juice of the flower must be placed on his cheek. You have enough wit in you to decide how to put it on.” Pippa shrieks and hugs Clara.

Pippa: “Oh thank you! Thank you, thank you, and thank you!” With that Pippa flees.

Clara: “I guess magic isn’t all about earning money….where was I. Right, a curse!” For five seconds she paces. “A-huh! I will make Prince Albert or the Duke of Brimmings proposes with one of those girls a day! O! I have to do it before they have a chance to use their trinkets! ”

Act IV

Setting: Albert’s Patio. Albert is flirting and adoring Therese. Patricia and Odette are gossiping in the corner.

Odette: “Look at him crooning over Therese. I should have never trusted him. He loved me, proposed to me, and kissed me yesterday. Today he said he didn’t remember me. I thought all princes were gentlemen….appears not to be.”

Patricia: “The Duke of Brimmings did the same thing to me! Tomorrow he’ll be after that bubble Pippa.”

Odette: “I find this very odd. Did you go to Nothing too? You know to help you?”

Patricia: “Yes, I couldn’t do a spell that powerful, I’m not that experienced in magic. You would think Therese would be able to conjure up some elfish spell by now.” Suddenly Therese shrieks, kisses Albert, than runs over to Patricia and Odette.

Therese: “He asked me to marry him! O! Nothing’s potion did work! I haven’t even used it yet!”

Albert: “My dear Therese follow me!” Therese blows them a kiss then runs off stage with Albert. Patricia and Odette look at each other in awe.

                                                Curtain Call

Setting: Duke Brimmings dining room

Duke: facing back to the audience, hands on his back.

Pippa: is shrieking as Patricia and Therese calm her down. “Oh could you! You said you loved me! You kissed me!”

Patricia/Therese: “The same thing happened to us. We cannot not trust him.” Pippa calms down. The duke turns and leaves just as Odette enters.

Odette: “What on earth is wrong now?”

Pippa: stammering…”He brrr-ooo-kkk-eee mmy heart.

Odette: “It seems like all of our hearts have been broken.”

Patricia: “Something isn’t right. I’m assuming that we all went to Nothing’s…” everyone nods “Nothing would only do something like this to punish us!”

Therese: “Yes! She gave us faulty things! We must go and punish her! In my land a faulty witch is burnt to the stake!

Pippa: “Yes! Burn her to the stake! She has down something wrong that has scared all of us!” Suddenly the Duke comes stumbling in. His shirt is un-tucked and his hair is a mess. He is throwing himself about.

Duke: “What is happening to me?!” He grabs a chair and throws it with a loud grunt. The girls shriek.

Therese: “Let’s go now!” All of the girls nod their heads than run off her stage.

Curtain Call

Setting: The city’s square. The girls are dragging Nothing onto the stage. Nothing is pleading for help as the girls shout at her, accusing her of witchcraft.

Nothing: “Help! Get off of me!” Nothing kicks as they drag her to center stage.

Therese: “No! You have insulted us!”

Pippa: “And probably done things we cannot even mention!”

Nothing: “All of you were in love with the same man! You don’t understand! All of those trinkets and potion would’ve killed him!”

Odette: “Be quiet witch! You lie! You gave us faulty things!” Odette stomps her foot and sticks her nose in the air.  Patricia drags a board and rope onto the stage. Nothing screeches.

Patricia: “I trusted in you!” Patricia grabs Nothing’s hand and ties them. Nothing shrieks. Suddenly Duke Brimmings lumbers onto the scene. Moaning: “what has happened to me?” The girls stare at him haltingly. Nothing stumbles up, her hands are tied. She runs to the Duke Brimmings.

Duke: “Clara, Clara I have found you! Did you hear that world? I have found my true lover. What are those bonds on you dainty wrists?” Eagerly he kisses Clara and cuts off the rope. The other girls look at each other.

Nothing: “Yes I am here.” Duke embraces her. You can hear Nothing whispering something.

Nothing: “I break my witchcraft, I break you curses. Now let us be in love, and all forgiven, we will trot away upon these many horses…” Suddenly the Dukes eyes widen. Pippa and Patricia walk over and slap the duke.

Pippa: “You fool! You don’t love this witch! You loved Patricia and I. Or cannot you remember?”

Duke: “Actually if I may confess.  I am not the Duke of Brimmings,” the Duke walk over to the other girls, Clara is smiling mischievously.   The Duke takes off his wig. All of the girl’s shriek Therese and Pippa faint, Clara runs to him and hugs him.

“This beautiful woman bewitched me. I do believe that now.”

Patricia: “Is this true Nothing?” Nothing nods. Odette is frantically trying to wake Pippa and Therese. Therese wakes first, only to faint again.

Clara: “We were once lovers. But I wanted to become a witch and train you, Patricia, to be my follower. There for I had to give up all of my love and get Albert off my back.  So I cursed him, making all single young women fall in love with him.”

Prince/Duke: “There were so many that loved me I had to have an extra disguise, Duke of Brimmings.” Pippa wakes up and is on her feet, wearing a scowl. Therese is sitting haplessly. Odette is standing by Patricia who is listening carefully.

Clara: “Then all of you started running to me. You were all basically in love with the same person. If you all had the chance to use you trinkets, Albert would certainly explode. There for I cursed him again. He would love one girl for a day then never love that girl again. Now Patricia,” She takes off a necklace and gives it to Patricia, “You are to take over my footsteps.” Albert almost jumps for joy.

Prince: “You’re going to marry me after all! I tried and tried and now you have given in! Ha! Well follow me my dear we have a lot to attend to.” The Prince and Clara hold hands and joyfully walk of stage.

Therese: “All love for Nothing, all love for nothing…” Then she walks of mournfully.

Pippa: Takes in a dramatically deep breath and walks of the stage.

Odette: “I knew something fishy was going on. I did hear that the prince had a little brother I’ll go after him next.” She smiles and ambitiously walks of stage.

Patricia: Stands in front of the audience and puts on the necklace. She has a straight face. “What a beautiful charm.” She holds up the necklaces charm, sigh, and walks off the stage.

Clara: sneaks onto the stage.

“It is more powerful than God. It is eviler than Satan. The poor have it, and the rich need it. What is it? Mmmm, I liked that ‘all love for nothing….very clever.” Clara curtsies and walks off.

* All of the girls come in holding hands and bow.

*Prince Albert and Clara walk onto stage holding hands and bow.

*Jared comes in and bows, than Christy bows and stands next to him.
