Day 17: I've NeverMature

Prompt: I've never_____.

Result: poem

Morph

I have never been false

Don’t get me wrong – I’ve lied

But I’ve never been what I am not

and believe me, I have tried

It didn’t work – I’ve never fit

I never made it through the round hole

To try and saw my corners off

was like shaving down my soul

What’s the point in being me

if I’m not myself at all?

Better to be a free pariah

than loved as someone’s thrall

I never knew what I could do

The person I could be

The images that I was shown

were all that I could see

I will never make it

if I don’t make my venture soon

I have only to accept my state

and emerge from this cocoon

I have never been false

Don’t get me wrong – I’ve changed

But I’ll never be what I am not

The same pieces, rearranged

The End
