Day 13: The Voice in My HeadMature

Prompt: The voice in my head says_____.

Result: whatever this is.

Monkey's Dark Playground*

The voice in my head says everything. All the time.

She is on a mission to speak every word ever uttered before and every word not yet invented. I cannot work for her constant distractions; I cannot read for her noisy addendums; I cannot sleep for her incessant daydreaming.

The voice in my head says, ‘I want to watch that .gif with the raccoon again.’

The voice in my head says everything I cannot. She stages nigh unending rehearsals for every social performance. I cannot speak for fear of stuttering or forgetting my lines. I cannot listen, too busy waiting for my cue. And always I miss it, caught up in the visions behind my eyes; the conversations between my ears.

The voice in my head says, ‘I WANT A DAMN TACO!’

The voice in my head repeats, repeats, repeats.

The voice in my head repents, repents, repents.

The voice in my head is as cruel as she is kind. My harshest critic; my biggest fan. My wisest mentor; my most juvenile pusher. My most generous benefactor; my most devastating castigator.

The voice in my head says everything. All the time.

The voice in my head says, ‘Good enough. Now let’s go watch that raccoon.’
