Part 4
I ran and ran. Claire told me to run and thats what I did. The boat house was about a 10-20 minute run. It was a small wooden house built beside the ocean. Our first plan when there was 5 of us was to take the boat and find somewhere safe. Then we got some smart idea that we could save the small town from the yucky monsters. I didn’t like them very much. For safety we lined the wooden house with metal sheets and filled it with beds, blankets, food, water, tools, knives, guns, lighters, and fuel. We each were told how to start and use the boat just in case. I missed my mom and dad and often asked where the were but Claire just told me they were somewhere safe and one day we’d see them again. I could see it made her sad so I stopped asking.
I got to the boat house and pushed the heavy metal door open. I put my backpack down and grabbed a wooden stole and put it under a window. We put bars across the windows so no monsters could get in but we could look out them. I was told to wait 5 minutes and no more. It had already been 3 and there was no sign of them. I looked everywhere but I didn’t see them. Seven minutes had past and they still weren’t here but I knew they would come, they wouldn’t leave me. I sat down and pulled out the note Claire gave me. It was from mom and dad. I couldn’t read most of it though it was written in strange writing. I could read the last part though;
We love you both so much. We’ll see you again very soon,
Love, Mom and Dad. xoxoxoxo
There was more writing on the back of it signed with Claire’s name but she too had written it in strange writing. It had been eleven minutes, so I looked out the window. In the distance I saw two stick people running towards me. I squinted and saw it was Claire and Blake. Blake was really big and tough looking, he got mad easy but I knew he would never hurt us, never. I opened the door as they flew in. They landed on the floor, gasping for air. I ran over and jumped onto Claire’s back.
“You made it Clairebear! You did it!” I told her as I hugged her tightly.
“Yeah...” She said quietly between gasps. She caught her breath back then sat down on the floor and took my hands, “I did tell you to wait only 5 minutes. You could have gotten hurt baba.”
“I know I’m sorry. I just knew you’d make it though and I didn’t want you trapped outside the fire.” I said looking at my runners.
“Its fine Coley Olie, come on its still dark out, lets get some more sleep shall we?” She asked me as she picked me up and put me on one of the mattress furthest away from the door and closest to the boat that sat in the water, waiting to go.
“Through me some matches would ya, Claire?” Blake asked staring out the window with his hand held out. She picked up a small box off a shelf and tossed it to him. He caught it and walked outside. He lit a match and tossed it on the gasoline circle we poured around the house. It started and ended at the water. I soon fell into a deep sleep to the sound of the fire crackling away. Claire sleeping across from me. Blake at the other end, knife in hand.
