"I don’t think I can do it..."
"It’s your dream, you have to do it."
"I don’t want to look like an idiot... I can’t. I just can’t."
The blonde sighed and ran her fingers through her short locks.
"You’re never going to get anywhere if you don’t try, Rem." she started, pausing to grab the attention of the stubborn brunette sitting beside her. "You want this. You’ve always wanted this. Now it’s your chance, you can’t give up on your dream so easily."
"Easy for you to say, Ms. I’ll-Be-A-Kindergarten-Teacher-So-I-Don’t-Have-To-Do-Anything." The brunette spat back, earning her a questioning eyebrow raise from the shorter blonde.
Rem sighed and gave her blonde comrade the best apologetic puppy dog pout she could muster. "Sorry... I’m a little wound up, I think."
"Wound up?" The blonde chuckled, moving to massage her friend’s neck. "By the feel of these knots, you’re a little more than wound up."
Rem accepted the contact unabashedly and showed her thanks as a long, content moan. "God, Liv, have I ever told you that you give the best massages known to man?"
The blonde shrugged a shoulder and grinned at how easily she could please her headstrong friend. "Once or twice."
The massage was cut short as a buzz came over the loudspeaker, and "Rem Samuels, Mr. Cassel will see you now" rang out through the small room they were occupying.
Rem let out a loud sigh and stood, shooting her blonde friend a pathetic pout before she straightened out her white dress shirt and black slacks, straightening her usual slumped posture to perfection as she headed for the door marked "Jaden Cassel."
She thought as she turned the knob slowly. Her palms were sweaty, and her body was shaking. Her nerves were definitely getting the best of her. She swallowed the lump in her throat and opened the door.
"Here goes nothing..."
The scowl on Rem’s face as she left the room, and how she slammed the door behind her gave Liv a good enough idea of what have might gone on in there. She immediately jumped up and ran over to her tall friend, and asked the obvious. "How’d it go?"
"How’d it go? Are you fucking kidding me? That jackass wouldn’t give me the time of day if I didn’t have boobs. I was a talking set of boobs." She started, storming out of the small room and into the hallway of the large business building. "He looked at me like he was a hungry dog who just found a big slab of meat. He didn’t listen to a word I said! It was ridiculous, Liv!"
Liv knew by now that it was just best to let her friend rant out all of her frustrations, and followed the brunette out of the building to her silver SUV quietly, offering just her ear. It wasn’t unusual for men to ogle her friend. Hell, even Liv had spent a share of her time ogling the beautiful brunette. She was everything any man - or even woman - wanted. She was tall, slender, tanned, and had the most beautiful straight, chocolate brown hair reached the centre of her back. But the most breathtaking feature that her friend possessed were her eyes. The brunette’s eyes were an unnatural shade of light blue, so light that they appeared to be silver in the right lighting. Her eyes were so intense that it sent a shiver down her spine just to get caught in them for more than a moment.
"... can you believe that guy, Liv?" Rem asked after a long fifteen minutes of ranting that Liv decided to ignore most of. She had already heard it all too many times.
"Nope. A real jerk, he is." She replied with little enthusiasm.
Rem frowned and looked over to the passenger’s seat of her SUV where her friend sat, uninterested. "You weren’t listening."
Liv sighed and looked at Rem, who was now pouting at her. Dammit! Not the pout!
"I was listening..." She lied.
"You were not!" The brunette whined, sticking her lower lip out even more in what had to be the most childish, adorable pout Liv had ever seen.
Liv shook her head with a chuckle and diverted her eyes elsewhere, there was no way in hell she was going to let Rem win her over with that pout. She knew what happened when Rem pulled out the pout.
"It’s just one more stupid publisher, Rem. Next time why don’t you go to a female publisher, like I suggested? Maybe then you won’t be eye molested by some jerk." She suggested, deciding that the rearview mirror was suddenly more interesting.
"Because, Olivia, there aren’t any suitable female publishers in the area." Rem growled with mock anger, realizing her pouting was doing no good.
Liv smirked to herself. She knew what game Rem was playing, and she wasn’t going to let her win. Not this time. "Well, Hermes, maybe you should look into another profession until you find a suitable publisher?"
Rem let out a horrified gasp and covered her mouth with one hand while she used the other to steer the SUV. "Olivia Marie Stewart, did you just... Use my REAL name? Because if you did, then you’ve got a serious ass-whooping waiting for you as soon as I pull this car over."
Liv chuckled to herself and turned to look at her friend, who was trying to contain a smile of her own, but failing miserably. "I think I did, hot shot. And if I’m not mistaken, it’s ME who has the black belt, kid. I think I’ll be the one whooping ass."
Rem stroked her imaginary beard thoughtfully and adjusted an imaginary monocle before replying in a horrible fake British accent. "You’ve got a good point, old chap, but I’ve got a few feet on you so..."
"Feet?! I’m not THAT short!" Liv whined, slapping her friend on the arm playfully.
Rem rubbed her arm and pouted, giving the blonde her best teary-eyed expression. "That hurt..."
It was too late for Liv to look away. She looked into the beast, and she was smitten. She groaned and hit her head off the dash. "Stupid! I fell for your trap!"
With a grin, Rem diverted her attention back to the road and made a quick turn into the nearest Dairy Queen. "Ice cream on you?"
