“Rhyley, please.” Sandra drew back, her face flushed and wet. “I love you. Don’t hate me. I couldn’t bear the thought of you hating me.”
“I don’t hate you,” Rhyley said, still quietly. He detached himself from her and walked over to his bed. He sat down on it and watched her. She stood still, watching him, looking distraught, agonised ... but her feelings couldn’t reach him.
“What else happened?” he asked softly.
Sandra’s eyes widened in alarm.
“Nothing! Nothing happened after that! Roger just left, promising he wouldn’t interfere again, apologising again...” She rushed over and sat on his lap, nearly bowling him over as she hugged him again - as if she thought that hugging him would make everything all right again. “I didn’t want anymore, and he didn’t try to do anything else! Rhyley, I didn’t cheat on you.”
“Did you really not kiss him back?”
“Rhyley,” she cried, pained. “Of course I didn’t! I love you! I’d never, ever kiss another guy behind your back. We talked about forever. Do you think that that means nothing to me?”
“No,” Rhyley murmured, feeling a tinge of guilt. “But I don’t know what to say to you. You think you might love Roger? Have you thought about asking him to make you his soulmate instead of mine?”
“I don’t want to,” she told him firmly. “I’m sure of that. You’re part of me and if I love Roger, I love you more than I love him. I just don’t know what to do about these feelings.”
“Me neither.” Rhyley ran a hand through his hair.”What d’you want me to do, Sandra? Pretend you never said this? It’s going to be hard - so hard - to do that.”
“I know,” she whispered. “But all I want is for you to kiss me again. To say you love me. Do you still love me?”
“Yes, of course I do.” He felt like he was lying.
“Will you kiss me?” she asked quietly.
Rhyley kissed her, to see if he did want to really, and was surprised by how passionate it became. He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her hard, and suddenly found himself pushing her down on his bed, tonguing her wildly, desperate and distressed, discovering that in fact he hadn’t been lying and he really did love her, and that he never wanted to let her out of his sight again. Sandra, moaning, half-gasping for breath, wrapped her arms around his neck and her fingers tangled in his hair, tugging, and not always gently. Her legs came around him and her body pressed against his and when he stiffened she didn’t pull away. They made out fiercely for about a minute, the seconds of which were filled with beautiful, anguished carnality - like comfort sex toned down for a chaste person, which was what Sandra was.
Rhyley didn’t know how he pulled away, but one second he was kissing Sandra ferociously and the next he was lying on his back beside her, his heart pounding violently in his chest.
“What just happened?” Sandra panted. “That was damn amazing!”
Rhyley burst into laughter. He laughed hard and loudly - till his sides split with the pain of the effort and he took deep breaths, trying to calm himself down.
“Um, I don’t think there’s a name for it,” he said, as he finally stopped laughing.
Sandra looked at him and smiled.
“It was good, that’s the main thing.”
“Yes, it was good.”
“I feel so much better,” she told him. “And so much ... clearer. Who cares that I liked it when Roger kissed me? You’re my soulmate. I feel... alive. And I know, deep inside, that Roger could never make me feel the way that you just made me feel. We’re right for each other. Despite my chastity.”
Rhyley smiled. He felt a lot better too. He no longer cared that Sandra had enjoyed being kissed by Steelfang. She wasn’t going to act on it. He wasn’t going to lose her. And that was all that mattered to him. He reached out and touched her face.
“I agree. And I love you.”
“I love you too,” she murmured.
They kissed, and the kiss was gentle and sweet. Rhyley drew back and smiled again.
“Let’s never talk about Roger kissing you again, all right?”
“All right,” Sandra replied happily.
“Good. I’m so glad we’re never going to have to worry about him again.”
“Me too,” Sandra said, smiling. “It’s such a relief.”
“Yes.” Rhyley leant in towards her and kissed her forehead. Leaning back, he asked, “Well, what would you like to do now?”
“No idea. To be honest I could just lie here next to you in silence and be happy.”
“Fair enough. We did just have a wild make-out session.”
“Oh, so that’s what it’s called. A wild make-out session. Well, Rhyley, I like wild make-out sessions. Very much.”
“Oh, Sandra. I do love you.”
“Good,” she said seriously. “Because we’re really going to be together forever. I won’t let anything stand in our way.”
“I won’t either,” Rhyley promised. “You mean too much to me.”
Sandra shuffled closer and started to stroke his cheek. Rhyley turned his head to kiss her hand and next thing he knew, they were kissing again.
