Roger was lounging in the comfortable armchair in his conservatory, contentedly reading a book, when his phone started vibrating in his pocket. Surprised, since he was rarely called on his mobile, he pulled it out of his jeans pocket and glanced at the caller ID before answering it.
“Ben?” He was surprised that it was Ben Stoke calling him, since - though the two were friends - they never hung out together, their history of socialising being limited to chatting at Pack events.
“Hi, Roger. Um... has something happened between Rhyley and Sandra?”
Roger was mostly puzzled by this question but he also felt slightly wary because of his distrust of the first of that pair. “What d’you mean by ‘something’?” he replied.
“Well... something wolfy. Has their soulmate bond been ... broken?”
“No... Why d’you ask?” Roger felt alarm surge inside him.
Ben sounded very troubled as he answered.
“Rhyley just went upstairs with my sister. He barely stopped looking at her.”
Roger swore, furious.
“I knew it - damn, he’s going to be sorry.”
Ben sounded nervous as he said “You, uh, won’t mention my name to him, will you?”
“Oh, no, of course not, Ben. Thank you so much - you did completely the right thing by telling me.”
Ben sounded relieved.
“Oh, good. Well, that’s all I wanted to say.”
“Thanks again. Bye.”
Roger closed his book and put it in the bookcase on the right-hand side of the armchair. He stood up, replacing his phone in his pocket. Come full moon, Rhyley would encounter an angry Alpha’s son in wolf form. But first, Roger felt duty-bound to tell the poor, naïve Sandra that her soulmate was a cheat.
