Running With Scissorsmature
"Do you remember?" Chloe whispered in my ear. We were on a minibus, in Ireland, heading to a meet point with Steve. Everybody else (obviously except the driver) was asleep, and we had the back block of three seats to ourselves.
"Remember what? That I love you and nothing will change that?" I whispered back, kissing her cheek.
"What you promised me." She nuzzled into my chest. "Steve's let us share a room, as long as we're quiet. Can we, yaknow...?" She shrugged gently into my chest as she leaned into me.
"When ever you want, we can. On the bus in the middle of the day if you wanted is fine with me. It takes a strong man to withhold his desires." I said, kissing her hair before stroking it. "And I don't know if I can keep this strength up much flipping longer." I knew she didn't understand how hard it was for me, watching her night after night, dancing in barely any clothes, with every guy in the audience drooling over her and Zelda. A lot of the time I wanted to kiss her to make the men realise they would never have her. But I could never do that, not on stage.
It took me a moment to realise she had leaned away and was watching me with confusion. "Whats wrong? You look angry."
"Nothing, just complaining at myself." I tapped my head, and forced a smile.
"No, something is wrong." She persisted. I shook my head. "What did you mean?" Chloe pressed.
I sighed in defeat. "I daren't ask you for things at times and its tearing me up." Her hands pulled me to look at her expressionless face. I moved my eyes so I wasn't looking into hers. "Sometimes I just wish you'd come closer to me, or touch me as if we were alone, or just kiss me because we hadn't in a while. But I know there was never any point asking because you never do come close when Steve's around."
With her hands still holding my face in a vice like grip, Chloe whispered my name. "Jordan. Jordan, frigging, Bracewell. Look at me." We hit a bump in the road and I looked up without meaning to. I couldn't look away.
She leaned forwards and kissed me violently. It was like a slap in the face - until I hiccuped mid-kiss.
Chloe leaned back into her seat, releasing my face, with a quiet laugh.
"What you laughing at?" I said before hiccuping.
"You. Are. So. Dense." She said, kissing my cheek between words.
"I know I am." I smiled slightly, before going back to my self aimed insults in my head.
"Stop tearing yourself up. We don't have time to stitch you back together." Chloe said, caressing my cheek. "What is it that annoys you the most about me?" Before I could ever refuse to tell her, she continued. "Yes, you are going to tell me, and you are going to tell me now."
"I love the bossy side of you. Its so sexy." I said, trying to kiss her, but she was having none of it.
"Stop diverting." She growled at me.
"The men in the audience." I blurted out.
"What?"
"The male population drools at the sight of two fit young women shaking their bodies in corsets and hot pants. I can't stand it because I can't show them that you are mine. And Ben can't tell the audience Zelda is his either." I explained, before regreting it. "Why the hell did I just admit that..." I put my head in my hands, and dug my fingers into the back of my head.
"Thanks. I know it sounds daft, but thanks for admiting that." She said and gently tugged on the arm furthest from her. I let her take it, and she placed it on her thigh, before squeezing my hand to get my to tighten my grip.
"Chloe..." I thought I knew what she was doing, until she pulled me into a hug.
"Sometimes a girl just needs somewhere to cry." She said into my chest.
"Oh babe! I'm sorry if I've upset you. I'm such an idiot." I pulled her as close as the seatbelt would allow, leaving my other hand where she placed it.
"Don't be sorry, I needed to hear that." She said and I could feel my shirt getting wetter.
"You needed to hear that I get jealous of a room of strangers, that get a front view of you dancing?" I was more than a bit confused, so I put a hand on the back of her head.
"They don't know me like you do. You know more about me than Maria does. I flipping love you. You and nobody else."
"Babe... Listen Chloe, I know you do. We don't have to speak anymore tonight, let me just hold you 'til you fall asleep." I said shifting my position so she would be comfier.
Chloe shook her head against me. "You make me happy in a way I can't explain. The sound of your name, the outline of your face, even the mere thought of you gets me on an emotional high." She snuffled and leaned away slightly. "I think at times I love you too much."
"Impossible. You can't love somebody too much, or I crossed that boundry all those months ago when our lips met for the first time." I said, and she laughed slightly.
"I want to go back there. To the place we first admitted to each other we liked each other beyond friendship."
"We will do, in November." I knew that the tour date for Hull was November, I just didn't know when exactly.
"No, I mean I want us to go back. Just us two." Chloe twisted so I couldn't see her face but she was more on my shoulder.
"We could spend a few days up there then. I've heard they have some great clothes shops." I said, kissing her neck. Chloe shuddered as my lips parted on her neck. I nipped her neck gently with my teeth before sucking on her shoulder with my lips. Her hand tugged lightly on my hair and I stopped. Quickly I dried the point I had imprinted and pulled her into a better hug. "Tired?"
"Its nice to hear your voice." She said with a yawn. "You have a really nice voice. Talk me to sleep?"
"You want me to bore you to sleep?" I said with a hint of a laugh in my voice. She nodded and closed her eyes.
"You could sing me to sleep. I want to know what you've been creating lyrically in that little book of yours." She yawned again, which in turn made me yawn.
"Ok then. I'll sing you to sleep. But not my song." I looked around for an idea of what to sing her, and Henry's hat falling off his head and onto the floor, made me start to sing one of his band's songs.
"This is our time..." I began and she grasped my shirt tightly in one hand - she often did this when she was falling asleep. It let me know when she was asleep and when I could move her.
Just as I got into the second verse, her hand dropped off my shirt and in to my lap. Ten minutes later, we pulled up in the hotel car park. The driver beeped his horn to get somebody to come open the carpark barrier and everybody except Chloe jumped as they woke.
The banter began quickly, and the volume sprialled upwards.
"Guys, Chloe's still sleeping back here." I called and Henry turned and nodded to me.
"How long she been asleep though?" He said with a grim smile.
"Less than 15 mins. Why?" His smile disappeared.
"You two having a cosy chat back there?" Ben asked as he leaned over Zelda to see me.
"We had a very informative chat." I looked down and smiled at her sleeping face, before shifting her hair out of her face. Looking up again, I found the entire bus was watching me. "What?"
"Jordan, you're so...soft with her. Its cute." Bex said from where she was sat on the opposite side on the next set of seats.
"We all know Jordan has a way with the ladies." Nick said from next to her, leaning in to kiss her. I looked away. "No conection meant there mate." He said suddenly, and he was looking at me again.
"Kiss her, and I'd not connected the two at all." I said, not wanting to bring that up again.
"Yeah, kiss me." Bex said and I noticed everybody else shift to not look at them.
"I'm liking it here already." I said, noticing that Zelda was gazing round the edge of her seat at us. "Its warm."
Chloe stirred then. "Its getting hot in here, so take off all your clothes..." She mumbled tiredly, pushing her hand under my top. "We at the hotel yet?" Her eyes weren't open properly, but she pulled herself upright and propped herself on my shoulder.
"We're in the car park now Clo." Henry said and her eyes opened wider.
"Who else is awake?" She mumbled, closing her eyes again.
"Everybody babe."
"Crap."
The driver opened his door then as we had pulled up outside a grand looking building. "Out ye all get now." He grunted, not sounding in the least bit irish.
We stumbled out, streched in the dusk light and went to see where we would be sleeping.
