I knew that if I stayed at home, I would be safer than outside. So I stayed home for at least three hours before my 'mum' and 'dad' came home.
"Eve. Have you done your homework sweetie?" I couldn't even look her in the eyes, but I knew I had to pretend that everything was okay again.
"Hey, yeah. All done, I had to use the computer, but I wiped everything off there. Didn't want to make it slow with the flashy websites I used."
"Ok sweetie, what do you want for dinner? Spaghetti?"
"Sure, I've got to go and make a call, I'll just be upstairs."
I walked upstairs into my bedroom and grabbed a bag. I stuffed as many clothes as I possibly could into it and threw it out the window into the bushes. I went down to have dinner and for once, we didn't speak. They didn't ask me about my day and they didn't ask me how much homework I had. After we finished, I cleaned up the dinner plates and went back upstairs.
"Eve, are you going to bed now?"
"Yeah, I'm really tired after school. We had to stay behind an hour and do track."
"Okay, love you."
"Love you too" Bitch.
I got into bed and set an alarm for three in the morning on my phone, turned the volume right down and put it under my pillow.
I woke up when the alarm sounded, I slept fully dressed so I didn't have to hurry. I made my bed and picked up some other essentials and shoved them into a handbag.
I walked into the hallway and tiptoed towards the bathroom, making it seem like I needed to go. But then I ran down the stairs, thank god they didn't make a noise.
I looked back upstairs, hopefully I wouldn't be back. I turned to the door and walked out. It was winter, so the cold air was sweeping my hair off my shoulders and making my ears turn to icicles. I tried to ignore the temperature and headed to where my bag was. But when I got there, the new guy was facing the other direction swinging my bag back and forth.
"So, you finally decided to come out and play." He turned around. "Well, I don't know if you know who I am, but that won't matter soon. Oh and if you want to run, go ahead. I like a challenge."
