Monroe Walker's life was normal. Until she met Spencer McCain, he changed her entire... life for the better. This isn't a love story this is a story about Monroe's journey to discover the truth about who she really is.

“Some say the world will end in fire,

Some say in ice.

From what I've tasted of desire

I hold with those who favor fire.

But if it had to perish twice,

I think I know enough of hate

To say that for destruction ice

Is also great

And would suffice.”

-Robert Frost

My world ended in fire, a blazing fire the roared through my home consuming everything with unparalleled greed. If I had known back then what I know now, then my world would be completely different. I don’t know if different, in this case, is good or bad at this point. Nor do I know whether or not I’d want my life to be different. The way my life turned out was an exciting experience, and all I can hope for is that my death is equally as exciting.

I woke early, at first I thought I was because I was excited but I quickly realized that I was wrong, I was dead wrong. I had woken up because thick black smoke was billowing in my room. I started coughing as I stumbled towards my closet; I grabbed a long sleeved shirt and wrapped it around my nose making sure it covered my mouth also. I grabbed the closest sweater, put on a pair of shoes before going to my door. I wrapped the sweater around my hand and opened my door.

I ran to my brother’s room or I tried but I couldn’t find it due to all the smoke in front of me. My brother was my best friend so I need to find him so it was painful that i couldn't reach his room. Instead, I tried to go to my parent’s room, because they would know what to do, but ran in to the same problem. I felt tears rolling down my face as I turned back to my room, I guess I’d have to jump out the window and… my train of thought was interrupted when I ran into someone. Thinking it was my dad I looked up in glee but I was surprised to learn that it wasn’t my dad, it was a man dressed in a yellow fireproof suit.

He worked for the government’s Firechaser’s unit, his presence should have reassured me but it did the opposite because in his hand he held a torch. The Firechasers only used torches to burn illegal objects. I quickly tried to run away in fear but I didn’t get far before I felt something hit me in the head. The blow was hard enough to stun me but not enough to completely knock me out so I was still conscious when the guy started talking. I couldn’t hear what he said but I also heard another voice answer. I tried to sit up but that failed when I felt another blow hit me in the back of the head.

I woke up in one of the Engine Worker’s arms. I was struggling to get out of his arm and run back to my house. But his grip was too tight and I was still too weak to fight him so I did the only thing I could think of. I started screaming my parent’s names along with my brother’s. I couldn’t see my house but I could smell it, it was burning still. I started sobbing and even though my voice started to fade I continued screaming for my family wishing more than anything to know where they were. I was set on the back of a MedCar and they quickly hooked me up to oxygen, even though I was still sobbing.

I must have passed out because I woke up in the Care Unit being rushed through the halls. I tried to ask someone what was the fate of my family but no one paid attention to me. So I gave up trying and decided to just let the Med Workers do their job because it wouldn’t do my family any good if I died before they found me. It wasn’t until later that I learned I had been the only survivor. Fire destroyed everything I’ve ever loved and for that, I vowed to make whoever started the fire, parish.

The End
