Moon Phase – Waning Crescent
Heading out of the library and back into the afternoon sun, Alex slid his helmet on. Nathan’s place of work was next. As he made his way out of the parking lot, he saw his mother’s sedan coming his way.
Lifting his visor, he gave her a quick wave as she drove up. “Were you looking for me?”
Alex shook his head. “Just stopped by for a second.”
“Alright. See you at home. Love you.”
“You too, Mom.” Revving the throttle, Alex smiled behind his helmet.
With light traffic during mid-afternoon, it didn’t take him long to reach his destination. His friend’s sedan was parked close to the front of the store, and Alex followed suit, pulling in next to it. Feeling the afternoon breezes blow over him, he removed his helmet and headed inside. Even if he didn’t find his attacker’s scent here, he could still get Marcus something for his birthday.
Inside, he saw no one walking the store, but his friend’s voice was quick to reply to him from behind the counter. “Welcome to Gamestop. I’ll be right with you.”
Smirking, Alex responded. “Playing Angry Birds again?”
“Nah, reorganizing these drawers.” Nathan replied. “Got some new PC games in stock, finally.”
Leaning on the counter, Alex took a few quick sniffs of the air of the store. His friend’s scent and one other he didn’t quite recognize were there; likely a coworker. The rest were a mix of fresh plastic, cleaning solution, and what he was certain was a meatball sandwich.
“So, what’s up? You looking for something?” Nathan continued.
“For Marcus, yeah. No idea what he’d like though, aside from another strategy game.”
“It is the thought that counts, don’t forget.”
“True, but still.” Alex replied, shrugging.
“The last game I remember him buying was Duke Nukem Forever, so an FPS might be a good idea.”
Alex hummed as he thought about that option. “I’ll look around for a minute. See if something strikes me.” His friend nodded as he headed towards the 360 department.
