Moon Phase – Waxing Gibbous

Days until Full Moon – 5

Walking out from his math class with Nathan, Alex tried to avoid bumping into the sea of students leaving with them. Most of their scents were getting familiar, for better or worse. When it came to his friends, their scents made him the most unnerved to notice. It was like he was getting too close to them, involuntarily or not.

“So, how's the comic store job?” Nathan asked as they took the stairs down to the second floor.

“It's fun. I've already seen my first angry customer though, which was not fun.”

Nathan laughed. “When people ask you about their sick pets and how they're doing, they're usually a lot nicer aren't they?”

“Yeah. Turn it around into products and suddenly you get assholes.”

“Well, at least it was just one guy.”

Alex shrugged and continued to follow his friend to the first floor. On the way there he thought to ask if he could help record some skateboarding footage, but at the same time, an odd urge came over him. “Hey, quick question. Do you think this campus is starting to feel cramped?”

“Why do you say that?”

“I don't know. I guess because of the increase in student numbers lately.”

“Well, Kempner's 2011 graduating class was bigger than ours, and this campus is the closest one.”

Alex thought about the phrasing of his next words carefully, his heart starting to beat a little faster. “Actually, I've been getting this really...I don't know how to describe it, but this feeling like something isn't right every so often.”

“What do you mean?”

“Like something here is watching me.” Alex nearly face palmed once he said that, but it had already slipped past him.

“Dude, it's a college campus. Everyone's got their eyes on you at some point, even if they're staring at a text.”

“I mean like someone, not just a crowd, is watching me.”

“Is something going on, or are you just trying to mess with me?” Nathan asked.

“You're more of the practical joker than me, man.”

“So something is going on.”

The End
