Unrequited

I still feel you so close to me,

Your touch brings goosebumps to my arms.

I remember only the good of how things were long ago,

But your face is transparent as I attempt to look into your eyes.

A hollow emptiness stares back at me and my heart falters,

It is not you that holds me tight

But the ghost of you from my past.

The you I remember and loved,

The you who never loved me.

I watch with a tragic sense of loss

As your ghost fades away.

I realize now,

That you were never really there.
