I woke up before anyone else as always and quietly got ready, as I walked past all the doors I paused by Katie's. Guess she now knows why I said her being human bothered me. Damn I felt like a jerk now. I left the dorm in a hurry, I needed to get away from Katie, now more than ever her scent taunted me. I tried not to think about her blood but it kept darting through my thoughts. I'd never tasted human blood before, I'd only ever had the synthetic stuff. There was definitely a huge difference between the two.
I reached the top floor and didn't even bother knocking before entering.
“Ben, what are you doing here so early?” She asked, then she studied me and let out a long sigh.
“You were supposed to befriend her Ben, not eat her” She muttered
“Its not like I did it on purpose” I defended
“Well, you had to taste human blood eventually” She said, “Though I wouldn't make this a habit, doubt she'd appreciate that” she added with a smile.
“You don't say” I murmured, not even attempting to veil my sarcasm. I sat on the seat facing the desk.
“Don't slouch” she said before sitting herself
“Why aren't you taking this seriously?” I asked, sitting up straight. I'd never hear the end of it if I didn't.
“Ben, you are a vampire sharing a dorm with a human, this was inevitable” She replied
“Then why did you put me in a dorm with a human” I countered, trying so hard not to make it obvious I was clenching my teeth.
“Don't get angry with me Benny-boy” She murmured, half distracted by more paperwork. I let out a frustrated sigh which earned me a raised eyebrow. Finally she put the papers down and gave me her full attention.
“I know you didn't outright hate humans, but you were never keen on them...So why does what happened bother you so much?” She asked, a familiar glint in her eye.
“No, you are doing that thing were you read into stuff too much” I said, crossing my arms.
“Am I?” She said, a little grin spreading across her face.
“I wouldn't fall for a human, grandmother. Dad barely accepts me doing fashion for god's sake. I don't even want to imagine the yelling that would happen if I brought home a human girl” I pointed out.
“So? He's one person out of million, besides isn't my opinion important too?” She said, that grin still there.
“I don't like her that way, she's a friend at most to me” I said, standing up.
“Uh-huh” I heard my grandmother say as I closed the door. I guess by now I shouldn't be surprised by her trying to play matchmaker, but why a human? It's without a doubt the hardest person for a vampire to be with. Besides, I'm pretty sure she doesn't even like me anymore.
I entered the dorm and could hear that someone else was awake. Katie. I knocked gently on her door and waited for a response.
“Who is it?” I heard her say
“Me” I replied. She didn't say anything and after standing there like an idiot for ten seconds I was beginning to think she wasn't going to speak at all.
“What do you want?” she asked, her voice was closer now, she was on the other side of the door.
“To say sorry” I said, she opened the door, she was still wearing her PJ trousers and vest top, her hair was messy and unbrushed. I had to resist the urge to make a joke. She didn't say anything, just stared at me expectantly.
“I'm sorry” I said, breaking the weird silence. Was she expecting some speech?
“Apology accepted” She closed the door. Why did I get the feeling she was still mad at me?
