The sunlight peeked I through the blinds and Phyllis stirred awake in her bed. She blinked quickly trying to adjust her eyesight to the natural lighting in her room. Finally, she could see clearly, and laying perfectly still, she looked around. Wondering how she even managed to get back to her room, she looked around. She heard a light snoring and looked over to see Kolby, still asleep, and shirtless. She sat up and an immense amount of pain rushed to her head. She had a hangover. There was also a sharp pain felt at the back of her neck, right above where the tip of her spin is located. She grabbed the area felt a strong throbbing pulse in the very spot.
“What happened last night?” she asked out loud. She slid out of bed and went to the bathroom to brush her teeth. She walked out to find Kolby finally away, holding the same spot at the back of his neck.
“How did we end up back in our rooms?” he asked her, looking around.
“I was just about to ask you the same question. Do you know what happened last night? My neck is killing me.”
“Not a clue. But mine is too.”
“I’m going to go ask.”
“I’ll come with you.”
Together, they went over to Rory and Ryley’s room. Kolby knocked on the door. There was no answer. He knock again. Finally someone got up and came to the door.
“Rise and shine rookies!” said Rory as she open. “Come in!”
“What do you mean rookies?” asked Kolby
“Yeah and why do our necks have a sharp pain?” added Phyllis.
“Well, if you sit and let me explain, I will,” Rory said following behind them into the bedroom.
They all sat down on the beds. Phyllis and Kolby on Ryley’s bed, and Rory on her own.
“Hey, where’s Ryley?” asked Kolby.
“With his boyfriend. But that’s not the point. Let’s stay on topic,” responded Rory.
“Okay, explain. I’m all ears,” said Kolby.
“Okay,” Rory began. “You guys are going through a transition stage. Everyone that goes underground has one. I did, and so did Ryley, Robin, and Rian. You are going through the transition of sanguis nocturnus, which mean nocturnal blood, or blood of the night. Last night while underground, you exchanged blood with someone that had already gone through the process. We didn’t want anyone taking advantage of you, so I exchanged with Kolby, and Rian exchanged with Phyllis. By the end of the night tonight, the pain should be gone, and marks will begin to appear on your body. No one knows how many, and no one knows where, they just appear, based on your life. That’s all I’m going to tell you for now, because I can see you’re both taking this in. Any questions?”
Phyllis and Kolby both just sat there. Phyllis looked kind of confused, while Kolby just looked, completely lost.
“Sooo let me get this straight. You turned us into vampires?” asked Kolby, finally snapping out of his trance.
“No. I hate the term vampire. We’re not fucking vampires. We can go out in the sun, we don’t have to drink blood to stay strong, we’re not hopelessly romantic, we don’t have the strength of one hundred men, we’re not allergic to garlic, and there are no werewolves. Anything other idea you have of vampires, let it go. We’re not vampires. We are sanguis nocturnus. Blood of the night. Yes, were up all night, but we’re not vampires. Never. Call. Me. A vampire! Got it?”
“Got it. Sorry. So what are we again?” asked Kolby.
“Sanguis nocturnus? Hmm… cool.” Kolby shrugged. “Hey, Phyllis. You’ve been quiet for a long time. Are you okay?”
Phyllis was sitting there quiet a long time. “Yeah, I was just taking it all in. So, these marks you speak of, do you have any?”
“Yeah I have a couple. The first one I got, was the one that everyone receives after the transition. It’s the shape of a crescent moon and a filled in circle directly above it. The single line vertically drawn through the circle and the crescent.” She pulled the strap of her tank top down and showed up the mark on her shoulder blade. “I also have a thin line that spirals around my wrist three times.” She removed the think leather bracelet from her arm so that we could see. “This one, I received after one of the first milestones I accomplished after my transition. Not everyone will receive one like that. The first one I showed you, everyone receives it, but on different parts of the body.”
“They look like little tattoos,” said Phyllis.
“Exactly. They all have a story behind them. It’s up to you to figure out the meaning behind yours. But, some people may never figure out what theirs mean.”
“Is there anything that we should know before we go running around the school? You know, like symptoms, or I don’t know, something?” asked Kolby. “Because um, all of a sudden I’m having these urges to um… yeah. Have you maybe forgotten to mention something?”
Phyllis looked confused.
“Now that you’ve mentioned it, I actually did. Like the first week of this newly found transition, you will have these... um... sexual urges. Of course when you’re done with the transformation, you’ll still have these urges, but not nearly as bad as they will be right now.” Rory thought about it for a second. “Wait, are you having an urge towards one of us?”
“Actually. It’ towards the body of you. I just have the urge to just rip all my clothes off and f-“
“Ohhhhh kay! Time to go!” shouted Phyllis. She jumped up and headed out the door. No one else followed behind. Instead they just watched the door.
“Looks like it hasn’t hit her yet,” said Kolby.
“Looks like it’s obviously hit you,” responded Rory. She looked down at his pants to see his erection trying to poke through.
“Oh. Wow. Yeah. It’s hitting me kind of hard.”
“Well, I could take care of that for you, right now.” Rory raised an eyebrow to go along with her smirk.
“Really.” Rory got up from her bed and walked toward Kolby who was still sitting on Ryley’s bed. He watched her as she walked. Then, he leaned back as she hovered over him, a hand resting on either side of him, on the bed. They were face to face.
“I think I like the sound of that.” Kolby leaned in toward Rory
“Oh yeah?” she asked seductively setting her lips upon his. Kolby was so easily reeled in by the feel of her lips on his. He put his hands on her waist and pulled her down on top of him. Not stopping to take a breath once, they continued to kiss before Rory pulled away.
Kolby had to breathe for a second before responding with a, “yeah.” I was barely a whisper though. He was in a daze and he had no idea what he had gotten himself into.
Rory smirked. She had him vulnerable just the way she had hoped. “You want to know what else I could do?”
“Mhmm.” He nodded his head still trying to catch his breath.
“Well,” she slowly moved her hand towards the now rock hard bulge in his pants. “…I could just…,” she rubbed it causing him to inhale sharply. His eyes rolled into the back of his head. She held in a laugh. Instead she kissed his neck, then his lips again.
“You could just what?” he asked trying and failing to remain focused while she continuously teased him.
“Let you fix it on your own.” She whispered in his ear. What she said hadn’t really registered in his head because was still teasing him. She connected with his lips again, this time he nibbled on her bottom lip, causing her mouth to fly open. His tongue went in and instantly went to work. Then all of a sudden, he stopped. His eyes shot open, and he looked at Rory, who was straddling him with an innocent smile.
“What do you mean, ‘fix it on your own’?”
Giggling, Rory climbed from off of him and said, “You know what I mean.”
“But, what about y-“
“Bye!” With that, she left him sitting on the bed, rock hard and frustrated as hell. She went to his room, where Phyllis was and knocked on the door.
Opening the door with a confused expression, Phyllis managed to get out a, “Hi.”
“Hey. If you wondering if anything happened when you left, it didn’t. I led him to believe that something was happening, and then hopped up and ran off like a little puppy,” she said walking into the room with Phyllis right behind her.
“Oh my gosh. You did not!”
“Oh, but I did. Your buddy is next door, solid as a rock, and probably trying to fix his problems right now if you know what I mean.”
They both looked at each other and burst into giggles.
“I think this is the start of a new friendship,” said Phyllis, holding her hand up for a high five.
Rory slapped her hand. “I second that notion!"
