Under the cover of a book

This is a strange way to start a book I must admit, but I promise that I will try my best. I do have to admit this is the first time doing something like this so, oh what am I doing???  Trying to keep my idea’s in order well let’s just say it’s not working…. Anyways, this..............................................................

“SMACK” I felt the impact of an object on the back of my head. I jerked around to see the stupid smile of my friend, Ryan. His presence is so annoying but since I’ve known him for 2 years so I’m used to it. Somehow I keep myself from hitting him, lucky guy. He walked over and sat down on the chair in front of me. “What ya doin’ ”?  His face still plastered with his stupid smile. He reached over and snatched my paper as I bent down to grab an eraser. (Thrown object) When I leaned back up Ryan’s face was red, he was trying not to laugh. “Give it back” I reached up and snatched the paper out of his hands.  He ran his fingers through his short, black hair; his grin wavering between a stupid smile and a strangled laughter.

He managed to look at me, who is completely serious, and burst out laughing. “Shut up you jerk” He kept laughing and, out of all things replied, “That was you being serious, I mean in the writing?” I nodded. He gave me the straightest look and said, in a serious tone, “Young lady, I’m afraid to tell you that …….” He closed his eyes and took in a deep breath then opened them continuing. “your writing sucks.” Needless to say I wasn’t the least bit amused. I glared at him as he started laughing. I stood up from my chair and packed up my book bag. Fixing my shirt and brushing my long black hair behind my shoulder I preceded to hand Ryan his eraser. The lunch bell rang and I glanced at the clock that read 12:45pm and sighed.

Ryan watched me as I stared at the clock when Trevor came over, a classmate of ours. “Hey Trev, she’s acting weird.” They continued to whisper quietly with the full knowledge that it annoyed me. Ryan turned his back to me to talk to Trev so he didn’t see me when I walked up behind him. “SMACK!”  My open hand connected to the back of his unprotected head. He spun around just as I stepped back, “WHAT WAS THAT?” I turned around after I shouldered my bag and smiled. “That my friend is called the element of surprise. Did you know that you can use that element in writing?” I smiled and walked out of the classroom.
