“I’m afraid we’ll just have to wait until the swelling stops before I can x-ray.” Sally informed me.
“But what happens if this leads straight o her going into labour?” Joe asked, unfreezing, but I wished he hadn’t just asked her that.
“I have the correct equipment with me – I brought the ambulance-car; I thought I’d need it.” She informed him, and then, as quickly as it had begun, the swelling stopped.
“Five whole minutes.” Jordan muttered.
“And I feel like I’m nine months pregnant, not four.” I noted.
“A month a minute – if that’s the case, let’s get you to the bathroom, where there’s more privacy.” Sally suggested.
“Why?” I was thick enough to have to ask.
“Because you’ll probably be going into labour soon” She replied, at which she helped me up, took me to the bathroom, sat me on the toilet lid, and went to fetch her box of equipment.
It went while she was out – my water – and I soon found that I was sweating lots, and beginning to hyperventilate.
Emily came in, when she heard my breathing change, to see what the matter was, and she then shouted to Dougie to turn the television in the front room on – I should have known that privacy was not an option with Emily around.
Sally rushed back in when she saw what was on the television and then the madness started.
I’m not going to go into graphic detail, as I’m sure you have a very good imagination, and do not need prompting, but it was very gory, and those of you who enjoy horror novels or films can probably imagine the amount of blood that there was, even though I was supposedly drained of blood. It was more of a black gooey-type-substance, rather than blood, but you get the picture.
I was thankful that it didn’t take long, but in some ways it was too long, and in others, it didn’t take long enough.
I’d hardly had enough time to get used to the concept of becoming a Mother, so I was feeling really out-of-balance.
I don’t think that the words ‘normal’ or ‘usual’ apply to me anymore, because with me, something different and abnormal is always happening, which means that you always need to be on your guard.
It was when I came out of my little daydream that Sally handed me my little baby, wrapped up in a hand-towel.
“A baby girl” Sally congratulated me, and I heard cheers in the other room.
“Thank you” I smiled earnestly at Sally, Emily, and the lastly, at my daughter.
She was gorgeous, of course, and looked a lot like me, though I didn’t have anything on this beauty.
I got up, off the floor, and went into the other room.
Joe bounded up to me, kissed me, and then hugged both myself and our daughter.
“What’s she called?” Sammie asked.
“Erm… I don’t actually know.” I admitted, hoping Joe would have come up with something.
“Don’t look at me; I’ll only be the one that changes the nappy.” He laughed.
“How about Danielle Hayley - or Hayley Danielle? Seeing as I murdered your best friends – sorry about that.” Sammie apologized – again.
“It’s perfect – what do you think?” Joe asked me.
“Perfect; Danielle Hayley” I agreed smiling – well actually, beaming would be a better adjective.
I went to get washed, and changed, reluctantly leaving little Danielle in the capable care of Joe.
I got changed into a casual top and skirt (red and burgundy colours, just take the Mick a little bit), after my shower, and then went back into the room to get my sleeping baby.
I didn’t understand why she slept, because she was fully vampire so it was really confusing.
Maybe she was some rare creature that was vampire, but acted human – who knows? There’d never been anything like her before; ever.
Watching her sleep was very engrossing, and I was that engrossed in watching her, I didn’t hear the others leave.
“They’ve gone.” Joe said, not expecting me to be listening.
“Yeah; sorry, I’m being really boring.”I apologized, laughing.
“No, it’s just new, that’s all.” He laughed.
“She’s just so amazing.” I sighed, looking back at Danielle.
“She is – and you’re hogging her!” He teased.
“Fine – you take her then.” I smiled, teasing him back, placing Danielle, carefully, in Joe’s arms, where she fit, snugly.
“She’s tinier than I could’ve sworn she was about an hour ago.” He shook his head in disbelief.
“Nah, you haven’t held her enough to notice things like that.” I smiled.
“Which comes back down to you hogging her” He laughed.
“Well you have her for the next few hours then.” I sighed, wanting to get some rest.
“Are you okay?” He asked, and put his arm around me.
“Fine, just a little tired – I suppose you can understand that, having seen it broadcasted.” I nodded towards the now-blank-screen of the television.
“Yeah, no screaming though; you were a very brave girl.” He laughed, patting me on the head, but running back over the whole episode in his head.
“I’m going to go lie down for a bit.” I said, and went to the bedroom.
I laid down on the bed, and shut my eyes for a few hours, but felt rested enough after three hours (and admittedly, bored), so went back in the living room to join Joe.
“Back already?” Joe asked.
“Yeah – got bored, and I was missing…” I trailed off.
“Yeah, okay.” Joe laughed, handing Danielle back to me.
