“I’ll tell her that I need to get away to my friends house until my wedding, because I’ve missed them.” I informed them all.
“Good idea – you could either stay at that cabin in the woods, or stay here.” Sally said.
“I like it – you won’t have to hide what you are.” Joe said, smiling at me.
“It’s time to unveil the monster from within me.” I giggled.
“You’ll have to pack when you get back today – leave before lunch time.” Joe said, looking into the future.
“Okay – why lunch time?” I asked.
“Amanda’s going to come, and she’ll try anything to make sure that you don’t go.” He said.
“Lunch time it is.” I said, and then Joe and I got up, and went back to my house.
When we got back to my house, I threw a month’s worth of clothing into my pink duffel bag and packed a few extras, just in case I spilt on them, or tore them apart in my frenzied thirst and pain.
I waited, until my Mum had woken up, and then I said my farewells.
“Who is it that you’re going to stay with?” Mum asked me.
“Oh, erm... who I stayed with before.” I said, remembering that as little information as possible was the key.
“What’s their name?” Mum asked, and I looked at my watch: 11:45am.
“I’m going to be late!” I said, and ran down the stairs two at a time. I locked the door behind me and ran flat out all the way to the cabin.
“Hey!” Emily greeted me once I’d got to the cabin.
“Hi – where’s Joe?” I asked.
“He’s coming – later.” She smiled a devilish smile.
“Oh no - what are you going to do to me?” I asked, with horror in my eyes.
“Something that he can’t protect you from.” She said, still smiling.
“Don’t – you’re freaking me out now. What are you going to do to me?” I asked, but she wasn’t thinking it and it was getting on my nerves.
“You’ll see.” She said, and then laughed one of those evil-genius laughs that you see bad-guys do on movies; it was a real ‘mwah ha, ha, ha’ laugh.
So, her plan was to keep things from me, was it? Well I can work this to my advantage; I am on the same wavelength as Joe, so I’ll just think really hard for him to come to me, and he’ll come right? Well, it’s worth a try.
‘JOE?! HELP? EMILY’S TAKEN HOSTAGE OF ME!’ I thought.
‘Chill; I can hear you loud and clear.’ He thought.
‘Good – come and get me?’ I thought.
‘Can’t – they’ve got me tied to a chair.’ He thought, and we both laughed internally.
‘Come as soon as you can then.’ I thought, and he conjured up an image of him nodding, and blowing me a kiss in his head.
‘Aww... how sweet’ I thought.
‘Thanks.’ He thought back, and then Emily said something which snapped me back.
“Hello? Are you listening to me?” she asked.
“Yeah, sorry – daydream.” That seemed like an acceptable excuse.
‘Right – I managed to snap out of the ropes – I’m coming to get you!’ Joe thought.
‘Thank goodness – I just saw into her mind – she plans to make me over, and wave a cupful of human blood in front of my face!’ I thought back.
“Beth? Are you even listening to me?” She asked.
“Sorry – what did you just say?” I asked.
“Ugh – I said do you want me to throw you a hen-party?” She asked, rolling her eyes.
“No!” I all but shouted.
‘I’m just coming up to the cabin at the moment.’ Joe thought, and I started grinning.
“What?” She asked, looking really scared.
“You’re going to regret holding me hostage.” I laughed, almost as evilly as she had.
“He didn’t-” She started but I interrupted her.
“-oh yes he did!” I said, my eyes bulging.
“Why did you have to summon him? We were going to have fun!” She complained.
“No, correction – you were going to have fun.” I corrected her.
“You don’t even know what we were going to do.” She reasoned.
“Yeah I do – you let the mask slip.” I told her; just as Joe slammed the door open.
“You and I are going to have a little talk.” He growled at Emily.
“Oh come on – it’s not as if you didn’t know I was going to hold her hostage sometime or other!” She complained to him, just as he pinned her up against the dresser.
“Ow!” She said, and examined her broken nail.
“Joe...” I started, but he silenced me with one hand.
“Go home; and don’t you dare try doing something like this ever again!” He hissed.
“And if I do happen to do something like this again, what will you do?” She asked.
“I’ll send you home to Mum again – but the next time you do it, you’ll go back headless.” He said, hissing again.
She honestly did look scared, and as far as I could tell, she was trying really, really hard not to shake.
He then released her and she flitted out the door, and I imagine she went home pretty scared; it scared me. Actually no, he scared me, for the first time ever. It was right now that he really looked like a vampire.
