"So... Tell me about yourself, Lesley." I stared right into his eyes and he turned them away.
"You can start first. You have heard of the phrase 'Ladies first.'" Hmph. Trying to escape aren't you?
"Well then... as I can see that none of us would answer that question, let's ask a different one." I gave him a grin. "How did you tell that my smile was a fake?"
"Good job at avoiding the question. Well anyways, it's kinda hard not to tell. You really didn't have any emotions on your face whatsoever. Just that is enough to tell that there is something wrong."
"Really now? Then what about yours? Where does your fake come from?"
"Fake? What are you talking about?" Lesley looks at me confused.
"Where does your fake smile come from? You obviously don't look the bit pleased that I am here at the moment and the whole idea about the party."
"Isn't it kind of obvious? I wasn't even warned about this engagement. I was well aware that we were paired, but I didn't even meet you until today. How can I possibly accept that we are going to be engaged?"
"Isn't that how all weddings go?" I stared out at the window and found myself a little bird to look at. "We can't do anything about it. We are not free."
"Then let's change it? You don't like this either right? Then why don't we just tell our parents about it and ask them to cancel it?"
"Here's your order." The waitress decided to give us our order at the weirdest time of our conversation. The tense excitement that Lesley had seemed to die down. I gave up the argument and started to eat the salad bowl that I ordered.
"Come on. If we ask, I'm sure they will do something about it." He is persistent...
"I can't object her. There is nothing that I can do to make her listen to me. She is the law and as a civilian, one must follow the law."
Lesley backed down slowly and he began eating his burger. "You were the one that brought me here and yet you are only eating a salad?"
"I said I wanted a snack and a salad is more than enough. Besides, I only came here cause it had a grand opening."
Silence overtook the table. We are going nowhere.
After they were done with the meal, they decided to return home for the day. Lesley took Alice back to her house and then headed home himself. The two were silent for the rest of the day.
When Alice walked into the house, her mother asked, "How was it?"
"It was lovely, mother. Would it be alright if I head out for the rest of the day?"
"You have been going out a lot lately. Don't get too carried away now. Come back before dinner okay?" She walked away.
And I thought she wasn't going to let me.
Alice went upstairs and changed into a very casualdress and tied up her hair into a bun. All of her makeup came off and she headed out into a pasture behind the house. She ran towards a stable that was connected to her mansion.
"Hello, Alice. Heading out for a ride again?
