I felt myself slowly waking up. As this happened, I realized the back of my head felt like a hundred pound rock had hit it at a really high speed. I tried to sit up, but I was greeted by being pushed back down.
“Hey!” I started, until I realized it was Elizabeth that had pushed me back down.
“Don’t ‘Hey!’ me. You just had a box of books fall on your head.”
“So that’s why I feel like my head’s about to---“ I stopped myself but it was too late. I watched terror go over Elizabeth’s face.
“No, no, no don’t do that. I’ll be fine come morning… I just need to sleep it off.” I said, trying to calm her down.
“But… it’s my fault the books fell, I should have warned you all the boxes weren’t exactly fully up on the shelves.” she said, slowly and sadly.
“Elizabeth I’m fine, I should have stayed in one place but I let my curiosity get the best of me.”
“I said no buts. I’ll be okay, worse has happened to me.”
About an hour later, I was laying the bed in the guest bedroom because Elizabeth had insisted I did and didn’t stop until I was there. I was just about asleep when I heard a huge boom outside. I shot up and to the window and saw flames over the tree tops.
My heart started pounding through my chest when I realized the location where the flames were coming from were around my house. Elizabeth came in the room and when I turned to her, she looked about as panicked as me. I pushed past her, going towards the front door.
