Flowers, Watch Out

Recommend

The manager swiftly sweeped throughout the resturuant, searching for anyone that could possibly be blamed for this. He found no one, but in reality, one of the convicts was right over his head.

I decided to proceed, but instantly regretted my choice. One of my sneakers slid against the air duct, causing the tiny sound to echo throughout the duct and the room below me.

The manager's head snapped up, and he was outraged to find a shape that looked like a a human. Even though my cover had already been blown, I held my breath for my silly mistake.

I had really screwed up. There was probably no way to force me out of the duct, but I would be trapped in there since the two exits were going to be blocked by employees. I decided just to continue moving forward since there was no way to exit the duct at the moment.

I crawled as quietly as I could, but since I knew I was being watched, I found myself tripping up often. Every minute or so I would accidently whack my hand against the side which would result in a loud clank. The side would also expand when my hand hit it, which I could only guess looked hilarious from the outside.

After what seemed like endless hours, I finally got some hint of sunlight. I wanted to run into it, feel it on my face, but quickly realized that would not be possible in my situation.

I slid forward a bit more. But when I saw what was in front of me, I stopped.

The air duct went down, and at the bottom was a metal grate. I saw by the heavy-duty screws that it would be impossible to get down safely. I figured that you have to unscrew it from the outside. I cocked my head to the side, thinking. That's when I came up with something.

I would have to slide down (face first) and pray that my strength would push the grate from its position down below me. It will dispatch and give in, leaving me a crumpled mess on the ground. It may hurt, but I can't stay in the duct forever.

Here goes nothing. I brace myself, and before I know it am falling a short distance, but it seems like hours. The cold metal hits me like a ton of bricks and in a snap I am in a heap in a flower bed.

Well. That went well.
