I hung up the phone

I hung up the phone, a lump suddenly rising in my throat. My husband had passed away a long time ago but I still felt I was being unfaithful when another caught my interest. I had made work my life and worked until after dark most nights. My refrigerator has become almost obsolete as I opt for take away far too often. The idea of cooking for myself doesn't excite me at all.

Taking a bottle of wine from the fridge I poured myself a glass and drank it down, rather more quickly than I should have. Hunger, cold, the collision, long hours and the wine combined to make me very light-headed. After a few forkfuls of food and couple of gulps from a second glass of wine I started to feel relaxed, picked up the phone and tapped redial.

The End
