The ride back north was uneventful and we made good time. Stopping again at Fort Laramie, I immediately checked in with Jake and Emma. She was sitting up in bed, but Jake told me she had been up and walking around. She called the both of us together for an apology.
"I want to apologize for doubting you men, I've never met men who have acted the way you two have." She started to choke up,
"You two are true gentlemen, women in my position all too often see men at their worst and form their opinions from said experiences. Jake here tells me that both of you are committed to others, and I can see why. This is fine by me, but that doesn't mean we can't be friends, you saved my life and I'll never forget it. Jake has also told me about Montana and Melonie. I think I should like to be part of this thing you're putting together, I'll speak with Montana, stating my case, I think we'll be able to work something out." Jake then suggested she get some sleep before we left in search of Mike.
"So how do you think Montana's going to take Emma?" asked Jake. I smiled and chuckled,
"She trusts me, and I've done nothing to question that trust, Actually Emma reminds me a lot of Montana, so we'll see how things go, how about you and Melonie? Jake shrugged.
"She's a little on the naïve side, very trusting, I really think I'm in love with her, and like you, I've done nothing to give her cause to worry. I really hope Montana doesn't go all "piss-assy" on Emma. She's one strong chick, I'd hate to see her wasted as a common whore. I nodded in agreement, I don't either, looks like we're going to have to set those two down for a little "chat."
