I screamed. I was alone in the house. Everyone decided to go have themselves a little party at the store. Was it that big of a deal? God. My family bothered the hell out of me.
Someone rang the doorbell. I looked outside the window, seeing Ness standing at the porch. I sluggishly dragged myself down the stairs, reluctantly opening the door.
"What do you want?" I asked.
"Hello to you, too. Can I come in?"
She walked in anyway, straight to the living room. She made herself comfortable on the couch, turned the T.V. on, and patted the seat next to her for me to sit on.
"Wow," I whispered.
A slight smile tugged at the corners of my lips. I let the door stay open, allowing the beachy breeze aroma swim through my home.
"Ok, Ness, babe, what do you want?" I asked, making sure she wasn't high, making sure she wasn't insane.
"Doll," she whispered, placing her warm palm on my shoulder, "it's about Derek."
"What happened?" I asked.
"You guys had a fight. I know. I saw it. Heard it."
"So... it's not that big of a deal."
"You kissed Derek!" she shouted, ignoring my previous comment.
"I was drunk. Things happen when you're drunk."
"Things happen for a reason, too!"
"Oh shit, you're not one of those... fate believers, right? Everything is meant to happen. Everything's written."
"Well, I kinda am I guess. But seriously, why would specifically you, out of the hundreds of girls at that party, kiss Derek, out of the hundreds of boys at that party?"
"Well, we were like the only people awake!"
"Why were you two the only people awake out of the hundreds of_"
"Ok, I get it! But..."
Now she got me thinking. I hated when people did this. Asked me a serious question, expecting an answer or not, but just got me thinking about it.
"I don't know," I concluded.
"Well, whatever. I'm spending the night, honey. I need to talk more about this."
"Ok," I said, "my parents aren't home yet... but they'll be here later."
"Like, what time?"
"Around... I don't know. They said they would go out to dinner or something."
She whipped out her phone, pressed 2 on her speed dial.
"Babe," she said, "come here right now."
She gave the person my address. Minutes later, a boy walked through my open door. He was good-looking... but pretty old.
"Ness," I whispered, through my teeth.
"This is Grant," she said.
"Hi," I muttered quickly, grabbing her arm.
I led her into the ktichen.
"What the hell? How old is he?"
"27?!?" I shouted.
"Shhh," she said, "I like me my older guys."
"Not fucking ten years older!"
"Have you screwed him?"
"Yes. At first, he thought I was a prostitute. Yummy, right?"
I rolled my eyes.
"Oh, but... you can have a taste of him, too. He's like my man prostitute. I allow him to go see other women."
"What a loving relationship."
"Well, we're not exactly dating. He's... just... a back-up type of guy."
"Why did you call him?"
"Well, he's a photographer. And he needed two extra models for his photo shoot. So I thought, how 'bout us two hot, sexy ladies?"
"And you called him to my house?"
"Yes. Believe me. You need some fun in your life. He's gonna take us to his studio. You'll have fun!"
"So he's taking us? Now?"
"Shit is not right. Hells ya, Syd!"
I thought about it. Modeling? Was it my thing?
"Ok," I sighed.
Grant was waiting. He kissed Ness, smiled at me, and took us to his car. It looked like a crazy scene for someone passing by. Two teenage girls getting into the car of a guy nearly twice their age. One of them repeatedly shoving her tongue down his throat. And little did I know that this moment would alter my life somehow. Derek walked back down my walkway, watching me leave with this man. He wanted to talk.
