Chapter 5 (Vinnia)Mature

Vinnia (Singers' Trainer of Morgance, Rune, and Casady)

"Good students this year?" Trace, Vinnia's personal assistant, asked.

Snorting, Vinnia shrugged. "Aren't they always? I must give it to them, the Songmakers Force knows how to find excellent Singers."

Frowning, Trace glanced over at the clock. "It's 5:40, Vinnia. Shouldn't you be heading off for dinner? Wouldn't want to be late for the first dinner with them."

Vinnia rolled her eyes. "Trace," she said, tone deliberate, "when am I ever on time?"

Trace laughed. "Off with you, you scoundrel."

"Actually, I'm not really in the mood to leave yet," Vinnia said, brushing back her waist-long silver hair. She turned to face Trace. "Do I look alright?"

"Alright? You look marvelous."

Mixed emotions ran through Vinnia's veins. Turning away, she stared at her reflection in the glass of the grandfather clock. After a long silence, she said softly, "That's very nice of you to say." Collecting her thoughts, Vinnia took her trainer's bag and nodded to Trace. "I'd better get going."

But before Vinnia could leave, Trace caught her arm. "Be good," he said with a kiss on Vinnia's nose.

"You know me, always getting into trouble," Vinnia said through a wobbly smile.

"What's wrong?"

"I'm going to be late," Vinnia said, removing herself from Trace's grasp.

"You can't always run from your problems."

Stiffening, Vinnia met Trace's eyes. "I am going to be late," she said, voice suddenly cool.

And with that, she left the room and headed for Room 1124.
