The Wolf Will Huntmature

Recommend

Golden eyes stared down at the mass of dancing, whirling bodies below him. Each slender form twirling and gyrating to its own beat. Its own dance. Its own battle being fought out with the music that pounded through the ears of everyone in the building. Music so loud that the very foundations of the walls rattled and shook with each reverberating beat.

Two pale hands tightened around the metal railings of the walkway that hung suspended above the chaos below as Gabriel stared down, eyes searching for one face in particular. The shadows that cloaked the upper quarters of the vast warehouse obscured all of that from view. Hid him well in the darkness, in his silent lair; hid all but the flash of his eyes.

A flash that at least one person had noticed. Gabriel watched as a young, red haired woman turned and pointed up towards him, nudging her dance partner as she did. He watched the girl's lips move, imagining the words that she spoke and those returned to her by the brown haired youth by her side. The boy in question glanced up towards him, flash of gold in his eyes that lingered but a mere moment to be replaced by a startling sea green as he shrugged his shoulders and laughed. He reached out and grabbed the girl by the arm, dragging her out into the mass of gyrating bodies and flailing limbs of reckless dancers with a sardonically spoken comment that Gabriel could put words to in his imagination.

The music became a roar of almost unintelligible noise as the youthful pair fought their way to a clear space on the crowded dance floor. A cacophony of sound as drums and guitars fought battle with raging keyboards and rampaging violins. The guitars won out and the music began to smooth out, the two dancers who now had captivated his attention beginning to sway and glide together to the beat.

Twisting and grinding together, stepping forwards and then back they moved. Dipping down into smooth, wheeling turns the pair glided about the floor; eyes half closed and heads tossed back towards the heavens. The girl stepped forwards, one knee bending as she leant her body backwards across the supporting arm of her partner. Lost in their little world of music and life they did not see what their lofty watcher did.

What had once been a crowded dance floor had begun to empty; couples merging off towards the sidelines, vanishing into the shadows of the vast warehouse like silent ghosts. Around the gliding couple there now was a space of several feet, widening every second as yet another pair vanished into the shadows.

But blissfully unaware were they as the music rocked and pumped, winding round and round and round as they danced to match its pace.

The girl was the first to notice.

Pausing; stumbling mid step to stare around in alarm at the all but empty room, she edged away from the shadows of the sidelines. She grabbed the boy by the shoulder but he shrugged her off. Her response was a harsh word and a not so subtle gesture as she grabbed him once again by the waist and attempted to drag him away from the floor.

For a moment it appeared she might succeed. But then, no... He pushed her back. Gabriel took a step forward, leaping up to balance lightly on the slender railing of the walkway, crouching down, watching closely now; the arguing couple.

The boy had drawn her close again, their lips locked together in a lingering kiss.

Then his arm lifted. A flash of silver claws and the girl fell. Hands flew to her throat; vain attempt at stopping the sudden swells and spill of life from the jagged wound. The boy stepped back, away from her clutching grasp.

As the girl hit the floor on her knees, astonished eyes still fixed upon her murderer, Gabriel leapt from the balcony railing.

He hit the floor with barely a sound; four heavy, padded paws taking the impact of the fall. His tail curled above him as he crouched and straightened again, wolfish ears flicked and golden eyes adjusted to the altered perspective of his vision. And then, curling his lips back above sharpened teeth, a low, rumbling snarl echoed from his wolfish throat.

The brown haired boy stepped back at the signal, and the body fell forwards; twitching limbs moving lifelessly amidst a pool of rapidly spreading blood. And, turning to face the wolf, he dropped to his knees; arm turning to gesture to the body of the fallen girl.

Look. See. Taste what I offer to you.

Gabriel glided forward as the soft sound of nails against the tiled floor moved in from the shadows behind him. Shapes elongated in the darkness; lupine forms stepping out from the shadows as he moved towards the kill. And dipping his nose to the still warm form, as the boy dug his fingers into his thick fur, he lowered his muzzle to the feast.

A hunt designed with human cunning to feed the hunger of a wolf. And the wolf will always hunt.
